Hi

This is my first post on the site

I own a 2006 SL350 that has a CD Changer & BOSE sound system and I want to connect my iPhone to the Command system. How difficult can it be? Extremely it would seem! I wonder what their rationale for useing optic fibre to connect the cd, command and amplifier together was when they designed it!

I have 2 question that I can't seem to find the answer to by trawling this and other sites

1) Is there any way I can connect the Iphone to the command unit if I dispense with the CD changer?
2) Can I connect a TV tuner that has AUX inputs and use them?

Needless to say, I need the cheapest option!!

Cheers

Also, the rotary volume control has packed up. Are there any decent command repairers in the Midlands who could also maybe help with my connection issue?

The most elegant solution would be to fit a dedicated multimedia unit, specifically built for the Mercedes fibre optic network (MOST) - it will replace your CD changer and provide full bluetooth connectivity, as well as USB and microSD ports. It's not cheap, though - at over hundred quid, but will offer the simplest install and great functionality:

Bluetooth Music Handsfree USB MP3 adapter-Mercedes Benz Audio 20/50 Comand Radio | eBay

The cheapest way to connect your iPhone, would be to fit an AUX input cable and a simple bluetooth adapter - for under £10 all in. If you already have an AUX port, then half that, with just an adapter.

I certainly like the look of that - and if it works, would gladly pay the money, but..... how do I know it's definitely going to work?? The ebay ad doesn't actually list the SL model in the list of cars it will work with...

The whole point of my post (that I should have made clear) is that there is no aux in on the command unit, in the glovebox, or anywhere!

If your CDC is MP3-capable, then I'm pretty sure you can add an AUX cable, just by plugging it directly into the back of the COMAND unit.
I had it done on my (now replaced) Audio 20 NTG2.

As to the multimedia unit - it is clearly designed for NTG2, and a MOST-connected CDC.
Can't see why it wouldn't work? You can always double-check with them.

SL are a pain. It is NTG1 but different to the NTG1 in E class. It has no AUX input. So to get sound into the system at a decent quality you have to put something on the fibre optic bus that the head unit software understands. To add pain, the software interface on the fibre optic bus is subtly different to the rest of the range so retrofitting phone system can be difficult. But as you are just trying to put sounding, you can get devices that make an iPod pretend to be a CD changer, such as Dension.

Email sales@comand.co.uk and Alfie will tell you what will work and how much it costs !

Cheers
Richard
