Hello everyone, just a quick question for my fellow Mercedes lovers out there, i'm contemplating buying my workmates old Mercedes, sounds easy enough but and its a big BUT, he's owned it from new, its an E320 Cdi estate 54 reg fully equipped but its done 165 thousand miles, on the plus side its got a full mb service, iv'e owned Mercedes for the last 10 years but never had one with over 70K on the clock, So generally what do you think, is this just too much miles and am i asking for trouble? she's a lovely car and in great condition but the mileage is really holding me back, any thoughts on this would be welcomed also what would you consider to be over the top regarding miles. Thank you.

First things first, how much is your friend wanting for the car?

If it's been properly serviced and no skimping, just pay a low price and enjoy a car that is designed for that sort of mileage.

Hi

I would say £6-7k is a fair price, I bought my E300TD at 5 year old with 160k miles on it for £8.5k and she is still running brilliant with 315k miles:D

If you are worried about the miles and it is a 7 seater send me his contact details

^As above,as long as the additional service items(atf/fillter,glow plugs, brake fluid, diff oil etc)have been replaced when due then you shouldn't have too many problems, just allow some £ aside over & above what you want to pay for the car in case of unexpected bills.

My friend is asking £5900 but i could probably get it for less, around the £5300 mark, he paid stupid money for it new but that mileage is making cringe..

Ah way too many miles!!!! Something will give and cost you thousands.

Give me his contact details anyhow;);)

If you could get it for what you want or less then you would be best part of £1000 up on what a similar average mileage car would cost.

315K wow that's phenomenal although saying that i had a friend once who had 650K out of a Ford Capri BUT he went through two engines and something like three gearboxes, and he'd probably still have it but the rust send it to the scrappy's, before he could install yet another engine.

I've owned a 2003 W211 E320 IL6 CDi with 265,000 on and you would have thought it had done half of that by the way it drove.

Been in more than a few various E class taxi's in germany/spain with between200/300k+;)

They are good for 500,00 plus

Excellent, thankyou gentlemen for your opinions, truly appreciated and 230K i'll forward you his number if i don't go through with it, thanks again.

My Audi A6 2.4 petrol had 215,000 miles on it when I changed it, The original clutch had just started slipping.:)

Of course stuff wears out with mileage, but if it's been looked after cost no object then 165K is nothing to lose sleep over. I bought a Citroen ZX a few years ago with 180K on the clock, it had done 20K year on year and been serviced every 10K.. it ran like like a swiss watch. I sold it on after 12 months, it had nothing but another service and fuel in the mean time..

Cheers,

Gaz

Go for it, you would be crazy not to.

Of the six Mercs I have owned, four were bought with over 100k on the clock, and two had around 40k on the clock. The lower mileage ones needed far more parts replacing, and cost me much more money. Next MB I buy will probably be another high mileage example.

If it were me and I liked the car, 160k would not put me off.
