As per the thread title, is anybody on here formally a Mercedes-Benz VIP customer...?

Many thanks, W.

Not sure if this counts but I do get rather expensive looking invites through the post with 'Mercedes Benz VIP invitation for you Mr (my Name)' but I've generally looked upon them as MB trying to sell me something.

We all get those BIRMA! :):)

Was wondering if anybody is receiving this service, you need not reply on this thread of course, a PM would be fine for the question I have...
How's that V10 Diesel treating you in any case BIRMA, no real issues with it...?

No problems with the V10 on the whole, passed it's MOT with no problems but have one or two 'niggles' 1st the boot has a mind of it's own, on good days at the press of the fob it opens or just touch the rear VW badge with the key on your person and it opens. Other days it refuses to co-operate won't open or close there are the most fabulously over-engineered struts that look like they would support a bridge and of course if you have to open it manually it's hard work.
I did send it to my local main VW dealer who completely f**ked it up and broke the plastic cover and I've also got the Ross-Tech scanner but can't seem to rectify the error codes so I live with it. Sometimes the car refuses to acknowledge the key for the press button stop/start so I have the chore of putting the key in the ignition and turning it.
Apart from that I absolutely love it, I thought I'd sell it once I bought the CL but I just can't bring myself to sell it, every time I get in it I say to myself 'hello old friend" Oh and I nearly forgot when the colder weather comes the rear passenger door on the drivers side refuses to open.

What's the power delivery like - and economy, is it really the best of both worlds...?

It has a pretty impressive turn of speed for a big car you have to plant the throttle and what you get is like a volcanic rumble from the transmission tunnel and whoosh it's off, no drama like the CL but with similar double glazing and good soundproofing it's a more serene experience.
I bought the car as a University taxi when my daughter was up in Norfolk and of course the roads were strewn with speed cameras so I just set cruise control and wafted up there in cooled and massage seat comfort, on the 400 mile round trip got about 40 MPG but for my daily duties around home the computer reads an average of 26 MPG which isn't too shabby for a 5 litre twin turbo diesel.

Mercedes VIP have a Twitter account, and sometimes they tweet photos of their customer's cars before delivery, and sometimes they give a clue as to the new owner's identity.

They also tweet cars which are available to buy or lease - these tend to be much more normal than you might expect, and surprisingly expensive compare to a lease company!

I thought that AMG ownership was the the golden key to VIP membership.

I'm always baffled by the costs shown there. Proper VIPs don't pay anything at all. And I used to work with a guy who had connections to pro football in Scotland. He had CLK and was paying £100/mth for it.

Apparently i'm a VIP to loads of Marques only owned a few of them and definitely not a Porsche, maybe Autocar are passing some details on ?

At Goodwood this year I was chatting to a nice chap on the Mercedes stand that was telling us about the new S class Maybach.

They laid on an event at one of the posh hotels in London for the genuine VIP customers, the kind of people that have more money than a few African Nations combined. They had one chap collected from the private jet terminal at Heathrow, driven to the hotel, he spent a little while there, liked what he saw and ordered four immediately. I imagine he didn't bother checking Orange Wheels beforehand.

The real VIP is simply another world.

I would imagine the ‘real’ VIP would have had cars delivered to them in all possible colour combinations only for them to choose the right one(s) when convenient. And for free too.

Yes it was but most found the service so slow they had to upgrade to aftermarket alternatives.

I used to work for a big Mercedes dealer group. On our database were some well known names.. singers, footballers, TV personalities etc. Some were given top models for free for a demo period, circa 6 months or so, just so they could be seen to be driving a Merc.

I just heard that the AMG Performance Studio refused to do a custom paint colour change (to another Mercedes colour which is not available on that model) and matching interior stitching for a very well known F1 driver. I won't say who, but I bet he's not feeling very VIP right now!
