Is Blaupunkt the best?

Hi guys -

Want to upgrade the current Blaupunkt radio cassette to a CD/MP tuner in my 1997 C250TD. Thinking maybe BP Los Angeles MP72 - good price (199.99 including delivery from http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/losangeles.asp), good features incl MMC reader.

But would it overmatch the standard speakers (recently lost the auction on Grasmere's Pioneer custom speakers) :( ? Is it worth while going for good sound in a diesel, the noise of which might mask the quality? What about the other car audio manufacturers?

Grateful for any thoughts.

Your'e having a laugh aint you? Noise of the diesel might spoil the sound from the audio system??? Perhaps you have something wrong with your car if it is that loud!

Seriously, Blaupunkt is very good, don't know if it's the best but they are certainly very good. I have the TravelPilot in my diesel, with a 1GB MP3 Compact Drive, a 300w amp driving 2x200W component speakers in the rear tailgate and a Blaupunkt self contained amp and bass box in the boot. It is just about able to get load enough to drown out the rattle from the front end! :D

I have just bought a Daytona MP53 from Bluespot to put in the Golf, it was £139 and plays MP3's from a standard CD so you should get 12 hours worth of music on one CD.

Thanks Jimmy - I have been thinking about the Daytona as well and it's good to get the endorsement :) . Not sure I can run to a Travel Pilot at the moment, though... :(

The C250TD isn't really that loud (certainly a lot quieter than my Landcruiser 3.0 TD) but it was good to see someone comment! :o I hope the power of the amplifier in your tailgate has nothing at all to do with the rust.

Just about to go off travelling for a week, having just started a thread - probably bad manners - sorry - :o - but hope to keep in touch if there any any other thoughts.

Used to have a MP72 in previos car and was a very good head unit. Not as fancy as some but did its job well.

Now have a BP DAB headunit similar to the MP72 different colours and the MMC reader not as good.

Not sure what size speakers you are after but I have some JL Audio ones for sale in the classified section.

I have the Woodstock 52 MP3/DAB unit and am very happy with it. Still need to get the DAB connects up - need an aerial (I know - I WILL sort it one day :D ) I love DAB so if you could run to one - I would ;) I have no prob's with the MMC at all - MP3 is great and have found I don't need an amp at all - even top down :D
