hi boys.

about a year ago i nearly bought a c180k, but after reading a lot of bad things about the engine and chain problems i went for a accord. the problem is that i still want a benz :)

i been looking at a 2010 w204 c180 cgi with the 1,8L turbo engine. is the the engine the same as the 1,8L kompresor in the older models or have they done something new with the chain problems they been having. when i look op the chains on the internet for the kompresor model its says that it dont fit the turbo model. maybe some of you know if they have fixed the problem.

is there enything else to look out for when going after the 2010 w204 180/200 cgi

As far as I am aware the timing gear issue is the same for all M271 engines, i.e. for all petrol 4-cyl W204 (The newer W205 has different engine).

I am not aware that MB improved the design... my understanding is that even today when changing the timing gear it is recommended to use aftermarket modified gear and not the original MB gear which is the same spec as it was before.

A few forum members here are professional MB techs and should be able to confirm.

is there anything we can do to make the chain chain stronger/last longer. are there any kit made specificly for this

Looks as if this latest version of the M271 has " camtronic" so that in addition to variable cam timing it also has variable lift cam lobes. Clever-- but just more things to go wrong in my book!!!

Fit aftermarket reinforced timing gear.

Otherwise use only 223.5/229.5 oil and always change at the speficied internals (or sooner).

Cdi is a No go for me. I dont drive that much. Is it the timing gears or chain thats the problem

Both, but the timing chain stretching over time is normal, the excessive wear of the gear (cogwheels) is not.

Where do i find the timing gear. I found the chain but cant find the gears for the 1.8 cgi. And wich brand is the Best.

If you don't drive much you probably don't need to worry much unless buying a high mileage car, and then it may be fine.

I bought at 47,000 miles and only do 4000 miles per year so I'm hoping the problem is some time off yet.

My son had his chain replaced at approx. 95k. so hopefully youre ok for a bit.
Im sure other components may fail though.

i can se that almost everyone gets it change at 80k-100k. so its almost like having a belt and not a chain, just cost a bit more. and off course some have been unlucky and its broke early probably because bad maintnence. just like a belt.

am i right or am i just convincing my self to buy one :)

can enyone tell me if the gears from the w203 kompressor fits on the w204 1,8cgi. its imposible to find for the 1,8 cgi 2010.
