Well some may recall my last post/thread about me having my number plate stolen on Easter Sunday !!!! Well I've just received the first notification of a parking offence which has happened in Brighton East Sussex !!! Got pictures of the offending car it is an E class Mercedes but looks like it is a saloon and most definitely is not my car thankfully hopefully The carpark company will realise this as I had to put an appealing as I can't get any phone numbers to talk to him but also was advised by my local police / West Mercia to contact the Sussex police and informed them of the situation !!! What a bloody pain in the **** this it going to be!!!

Ohhhh if anyone is living in the Brighton area and see my plates reg on a Mercedes please let me or the Sussex police know when and where please as it would be great if we could get the culprits or even the plates off the road asap thanks image-1302598745.jpg This is the offending vehicle !!! Obviously a pain in the rear but you've got nothing to worry about.
Yes it's a pain as I was on the phone and putting in the appeal on the website for nearly 2 hours yesterday after I got home from work :(

Hope you get this sorted as soon as possible. If Sussex Police are aware hopefully it will turn up on their ANPR if it is local. That is assuming they're driving round with them on the car long enough for them to catch it.

I share your pain.

My youngest daughter's boyfriend had his car cloned.

Crazy thing is that it stayed local to us but never acquired any penalty points whatsoever.

Eventually caught and was an insurance / MOT evasion tactic.

That's not an E-class, it's a W204 C I think. Might help when you're talking to plod.

It seems weird they'd nick a plate from a) the wrong sort of car when so many c-class on the road and b) a memorable plate rather than an anonymous XXNNXXX one. Good luck getting it sorted.

Ohhhh I wasn't sure what Mercedes it was for sure , did think it was an E class myself ,
Guess mine was an easy option as I live sandwiched between a main road and a Parallel road , easy to escape if seen ,
As for them not stealing them off another e cab , don't know the answer to that but guess it's another black Mercedes and coppers probably won't take much notice if it's not been drawn to their radar :(

Stolen vehicle identity seems to be rife in certain areas. Cloned cars sold in Greater Manchester eBay scam - BBC News
I actually thought this one was going to happen to my car but seems more for parking offences !!! I have been searching eBay every day to see if my type a car came up but haven't seen any not sure if they would be out of find my vehicle details I guess I would as my car has no model details in it ;)

Cloners are right b*stards. They're hurting two a unrelated victims.

So how to prevent it? On the buying side, the article says they also changed the chassis numbers, so do they mean the VIN? To do that completely on a modern Mercedes would be in than one place right, inc behind the windscreen?
Is there any way of looking up the official record of the owner on DVLA or other site?
Not to self - don't buy on eBay or the internet in general. So this cloning is perversely good news for dealers?

And they don't give a s*** about anyone or anything apart from their bank balance :(

NO, DVLA are there to take money in, not to prevent fraud on the general public - Data Protection Act, you know (of course). You might be lucky if you claim the registration in question belongs to a car which is being parked on your property regularly, but it will take a while before you receive any reply.

This looks like a W204 (C-Class 2007-2014) Saloon.

Plus is has the Intelligent Light System (ILS) with the C-shaped DRL lights incorporated into the headlamps.

I wonder how many of these have been stolen in the Sussex area in the past year or so?
