Just called Mercedes Leicester to check on some oil specs for my C280 V6 and happened to ask them the cost of oil for my car and wait for it £131.30 for 8 liters of Shell Helix. No wonder our servicing costs are astronomical. They suggest a fully synthetic 5w40 which i use but mine costs £15.00 for 5 liters and is a 229.3 specification. Bet Mercedes get the Helix for about £5.00 a litre in bulk ? any one know what mark up they put on it ?. Cheers, Tony.

I bought 10l of Mobil 1 from my local motor factors for £90 and you can get it cheaper than that if you look around

Don't buy oil from the dealership

Main Dealers are generally a rip off.

I got 5 litres of Mobil 1 0-40 for £30 from Costco a few weeks back, which I thought was pretty good, can't remember what the main dealer charged me last time but think it was probably double that.

Just looked on fleabay and you can get 5 L Of helix ultra 5w40 for £29.99

You can get the correct spec oil for a lot less.

We use a variety of sources but pop into your local vauxhall parts counter. They sell MB approved oil and its very good value!

Kwik Fit will supply and fit Mobil1 cheaper than you can buy it.

Shell Helix just over £4/litre trade so thats not a bad mark up. If they buy 1000 litres or more a time which I'm sure they will it will be even less.

Still it's a lot better than putting that Mobil 1 carp in :D

Yes mate i have an account with Drive Vauxhall Leicester and Parkers of Leicester too. They sell only extremely good quality parts and their customer service is first class. Do you do an air con service please ?. T.

Asda at Fosse Park always has a good selection of oils much cheaper then you can generally buy anywhere else.

I would not go to MB Leicester if you paid me. I had nothing but problems every time I tried to deal with them so I am not surprised at what they want to charge for oil.

If they can afford to price oil at such an outrageous price they must have plenty of Mug punters.

Shell Helix is a good brand but not at that price £25 for 5 litres is about right. As Jay says GM Dexos 2 at around £20 or so for 5 litres is also good value from your local vauxhall dealer but check price before you go!!!

Any oil is good as long as it meets or is better than the MB Spec for your vehicle.

M-B Guildford are happy for me to supply my own oil when they service the SL.

I used to have a Vauxhall Trade Club card and indeed the dealers had very good prices for GM-branded oil, including a 5-for-4 (5L containers) special offer.

Looks like Mercedes are selling it for four the times the amount they are buying it for. Is this legal ??? Criminal.

you can get a 7+ value service from MB for £139.

Tony.

When i was at the dealer they used to pay around 60-80p per litre but they were buying about 10,000 litres a month between the 5 local dealers.

On another note... you will find that the dealers bills for oil based on manufacturer's spec for max engine oil capacity, and not based on amount of oil actually used.

Given that their official policy is to underfill by between one and two litres of oil when cold (to allow for oil expansion when hot), you are also paying for oil they did not actually supply.... and at around £15+VAT per litre, it adds up.
