And that, in my view, is a massive rip off for one oil and filter change.

Have you checked Opie Oils? Millers/Motul or Fuch's for quality oil..

I use shell helix ultra 5w40. It's very very good oil.
Not worth that much though!!!!!!!

Well thanks chap's for all your replies and yes i was more than shocked too. I already have oil which is 229.3 spec so well above the 229.1 my hand book suggests. The dealer in question only sells it in 1 litre containers as well so obviously more expensive than 5 l containers. What a rip off. Grrrrr.

Need to watch oil pricing and as ever shop around. Pricing varies considerably

Take for example Motul X-Clean 5w-40 (MB229.51), sold by Opie £43.19 for 5litres

Mobil 1 new life oil is excellent @ £39.99 for 5 litres. Mine uses 5.5 litres but purchased halfords own for £15.99 for 2 litres to top up the 0.5.
Car is super smooth.

My oils are made by Comma including auto trans. A very reputable company too. very very reasonable prices too. I can't see that Mobil 1 castrol edge or Shell Helix are any better. Only long term use will show any differences but my C280 has done 150 k and runs perfectly on 5W40 fully synthetic and no oil burnt/used. i check it every week. i bet my engine is just about run in by now. seems like i'm getting a bargain at £15.00 for 5l

I only bought the mobil 1 as it was on offer. Truthfully my car hasn't sounded this quiet since I purchased it. Mines done 172k. Probably will buy again.
