Not ebay, but Amazon marketplace ...

I don't beleive how cheap memory is getting - even for decent brands

Someone is selling Kingston 2GB SDram flash cards for £9.84 on Amazon - seem to be minimum of around £13.50 in other places

I just bought some ..

[EDIT, actually you need to be careful, as the price changes I guess as different sellers run out of stock current best price seems to be £9.95 with £4.50 per item postage, no discount for multiple orders]
[more edit. If you look at the above link, and then look at the list of sellers, Amazon themseves sell for £12.75 and then you can (i think) use their free delivery service if you spend over £15)]
[EDIT EDIT - Amazon now £11.30, free postage over £15]

I received an email from Amzon saying 2GB SD cards were on special at £12.99 - I was gutted as I'd just bought a 1GB SD card from PC World on my way home from work!!

When I followed the link 2GB cards were actually £9.99 - even cheaper than the email had said. Even more gutted!! I reconciled it in my own mind as having paid a premium for the immediacy of picking one up - didn't help much though!! :D

Plus £4.50 p+p......

Play.com and eBuyer.com have them at similarly lo prices, and Play.com don't charge shipping ;)

Mind you, I've already ordered a bunch! MP3 player, phone, Wii... all outfitted with 2-gig cards!

Don't ya just HATE it whan you buy something and the next day discover you could have got it cheaper?

What speed? In fact can anyone expand on speed? I get confused with SD card speeds, the different standards and what the speed is actually measured in. I see some are 80x and some 150x.

I am thinking for use in a latest generation digi cam.

For digital camera use, for a semi-pro or enthusiastic Amateur I would stick to the main brand such as Kinsgton and go for a minimum speed of 120x as entry level and try and get 150x.

Also be very aware of the FAKE memory that is being sold on eBAY - this includes Sony MS/duo and there are now counterfeit SANDISK memory hitting the streets as well...

It is very difficult to distenguish physically between the genuine and the fake - but if the price is too cheap or the source is dubious... do beware.

This Amazon SD is good of basic cameras and iPaqs etc...

1, take it back to PC World, tell them it is faulty and ask for a refund. Take your money and wander off.

2, Go back into the store and pick up as many 2GB cards as you want

3, Head over to the till and ask them to price match with Amazon.

4, Leave the store with a pocket full of cheap memory cards :)

PC World don't advertise it too well but they will pricematch all "leading online retailers" as well as local computer shops within a reasonable distance in store. The only stipulation is that the comparison dealer should have the item in stock although they never check.

This can get really interesting if they have advertised something on their own site as "web/internet offer only" because guess what? In their list of "leading online retailers" guess who comes in at number 8......Yep, their own site :)

HTH

yep and that's the best bit, they end up undercutting themselves because their web site prices are very often lower than the store prices :)

We were told about this by the manager of the local store and we've had the discount applied to two printers and one camera.

Andy

They're part of the DSG group , along with Currys and Dixons ....

When I was shopping for my plasma, the manager of my local Currys was quite happy to match any price on any of the websites ( PC World , Dixons or Currys ) even on the offers that quite clearly stated ' WEB PRICE ONLY , NOT AVAILABLE IN STORE' ....

He did say that strictly speaking it was down to managers discretion , so if one of them won't do it, go to another branch ....

Managed to have them price match themselves Andy?

Did this as well with Currys, wanted a camera and needed it that day as going on Hols. Went into Currys expecting to have to pay the extra £20 but asked if they do price match. They said yes, so I said match your own website, he said we dont, I said, OK, I will go home and order it off your site, he said he would check the price on the net, then he said OK, we will match it!! Result!:D
