Thanks to all for helping me decide what wheel size - results were not statistically significant, and I'm going to go 18...

Pay has landed in bank, so ordering wheels next week (car washing and photographing will follow...)

Final poll before I plunge into ordering:

Momo FXL-1 wheels (Top pic, 18x8 245/40/18 all round) , or Mak Veleno ( bottom pic18x8 245/40/18 front, 18x9 265/35/18 rear)....

I don't think the 5 spokes suit the car, they'd suit an S-Class better IMO, I'm not that keen on the bottom set either if I'm being honest and prefer the set currently on your car, but they'd be my pick of the two sets on looks, and because they're staggered front and rear which looks great.

Have you thought about a set of multispokes ;)

I was originally going to go multispoke, but there's too many "againsts" on the multispoke front. All the lipped ones look a bit tacky unless lowered. All the cheaper ones are flat or even convex faced, making them damage magnets. Only multis I like are the 18" merc OE ones which arent' that dear either, I considered Team dynamics Equinox but not convinced on that either - look nice as 19s but the 18s have shorter spokes and look a bit odd.

RS-JK5s are also a possibility - they're stagger fit with a stainless rim, not convinced about quality though - anyone experienced them?

Must admit, I love the look of the AMG multispoke rims.

Cleaning wouldn't be fun but they are stunning.

The double-spoke wheels look very similar to what's on your car at the moment (in your sig pic!)

Are there no MB wheels that take your fancy? Perhaps some AMGs or something like that.

Plenty of AMGs that take my fancy, all priced way outside my budget (looking at a spend of under £1000 with tyres, that means under £600 for the wheels!)

Friend of mine just sold his C class with 18" AMG E63 replicas, unfortunately he didn't tell me before he sold it...

I don't like either so can't vote. But I do like the ones on the other wheel thread.

:thumb: Look like the AMG rims fitted to the SL series

They are indeed SL55 turbines, it's my car :)

Tim, are you sepcifically looking for a brand new set of wheels? I was but started looking on pistonheads, ebay and this website and eventually bought mine secondhand for £750 with near new (1,000 odd miles) Michelin Pilot tyres, spent another £220 getting them shotblasted and powdercoated, they look as good as new to me and all for less than your £1,000 budget. I know it's a lot for secondhand wheels but they look good as new and all in cost less than half of buying them from a main dealer, don't discount older wheels if the price is right, these refurb guys can work wonders.

Worth considering?

No vote from me. Dont like either, but hey thats life. To me the choice is to "spindley" For me the wheels should have a touch more metal in them.

You did well - but I just can't bring myself to running used tyres! £875 seems to be the price for a set of the 18" mercedes twin ten spokes, new, from alloywheelsdirect, tyres (from my local fitter) are just over 400 quid a set, I think if I were considering anything OE I'd go that way, but then part of me is miffed that after buying two new Ankaas a couple of years ago they're just doing the same thing, lacquer peeling and looking rubbish, which is ironic as it's the wheels that pursuaded me to choose this particular silver E class over the rest of them on the forecourt (which all seemed to have Yilduz....)

A few other points to consider :-

Secondhand MB/AMG wheels will hold their value pretty well should you decide to sell them seperately in the future or if not they could add value/saleability to your car whereas aftermarket wheels could do the opposite.

What tyres are you getting fitted for £400? Sounds as though they'll be some sort of budget brand. Personally, I'd much rather a set of 1000 mile old Michelin Pilots to a set of budget new tyres. I wouldn't discount used wheels that come with tyres for this reason.

Finally - with proper MB/AMG wheels at least you'll be sure of the fitment quality and such. Aftermarket wheels can be fine, but it's a bit of an unknown quantity IMHO. Have you checked out the insurance implications etc by fitting non-MB wheels?

All IMHO of course :)

You could fit Falken FK452s for £400

Well - decisions made, 3 wheels arrived yesterday (and one matching but Mazda fitment...), correct wheel being despatched today...

Couldn't get either of my choices - no stock in correct fitment - got something quite similar to one of the designs though.

Disappointed not to get a stagger set but it makes the tyres cheaper and rotatable :)

So... come saturday I think a new sig photo will be on the way!
