My 1998 C180 has a small problem on the instrument cluster. The mileage display doesnt show all the digits. It should be around 130000 but it only shows 1 0000. The second digit is incomplete. It does work sometimes when the weather is hot or if I have done a lot of driving. its only a small problem but would like to try and fix it myself. any ideas?

My experience is with trying to fix 1990's Audi clusters, but I suspect the construction is similar. The problem is usually the connector between the pcb and the LCD - either the thin ribbon cable type, a direct press-on type or a soldered connection. These are likely to be on a very fine pitch, 0.05 inch or less, and very easy to damage further without a magnifying glass and a surface mount re-work station.
These days, my first choice would be someone who offers an instrument cluster repair service. Sorry, I don't have a recommendation.
By all means, take the cluster out & have a look, but I suspect you'll end up sending it away for repair.
Ian.

Thanks, I am curious though, how come it tries to work when it is hot?
