E220 cdi coupe
Hi, first time poster here, also first time Mercedes owner.
2013 E220 cdi coupe, purchased in April 2019.

The engine management light appeared on the dash this morning and the car went into limp mode, the last time this happened it turned out to be the gearbox fuel pump that had failed and cost over £700 to rectify at mercland so my heart sank at the thought of another expensive trip to the garage!
Then a message appeared on dash, washer fluid level low.
I topped it up with 2 litres of water and the engine management light went out, no more limp mode either!

So, would running low on windscreen washer fluid really put the vehicle into limp mode?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What made you think the car went into limp mode?
Some models use the same circuit for the washer level sensor and the coolant level sensor. I wouldn't think either would put the car into limp mode though

Hi, thanks for your response.

It definitely went into limp mode, really weak acceleration and a top speed of around 50mph.

If everything is now OK I'd put it down to experience and see if it (EML) returns

Ok, many thanks, if it appears again I shall get it booked into mercland.
