My locking wheel nut key has broken trying to take one of my wheels off. It is stamped with a D. Can anyone recommend the best place to buy one?
Many thanks

Buy 4 plain bolts , go to your local tyre depot ask them to rattle the locknuts off (they will have the kit) throw all 4 in the bin and replace them with the 4 plain new ones. You will never have this trouble again.

Or buy a new locknut key nut only to find that it will not undo the other 3 wheels either.

I do wonder if that blokes brand new merc that was stripped overnight had locking wheel bolts fitted.

Wouldn't have mattered one bit . locking wheel nut rippers are available cheaply on Ebay , Amazon and countless other outlets used with a cheap battery powered (Lidl) rattle gun, the wheels are gone. Locking wheel nuts are OK for the most part but many drivers only find out they are overtightened or the 'key' is missing when its too late.

I have them on my car and that's where they will remain . But I do my own wheels and I know they are torqued up correctly and will come loose when I need them to . I also know they will not stop a properly equipped thief.

A dedicate thief could easily just buy the complete sets of wheel nut key boxed sets to cover just about every car sold in the UK for around £350. But nut rippers are cheaper.

Unfortunately completely right. In all the years I’ve known him, Ray our tyre guy has removed hundreds of lockers and NEVER fails to get them off.

If you do want to get a replacement key for your existing locking bolts..... if they are genuine MB locking bolts, then the retail box that usually holds the key will have a piece of paper with a code on it. This code will allow you to order a new key via the MB dealer. It will obviously take time, so not really helpful if stranded at the roadside....

Sorry, I think I may have misread your post... what broke... the locking wheel bolt, and the key?

EDIT: Thanks @whitenemesis for helping a blind old man :D

Any main dealer will remove the others, they don’t use the ones in the car they have their own ones to fit any mb car. I know this as mine went in for service and the key was at home, I rang to say I’ve got the key here and I’ll bring it in. I was told no need we use our own.

Don't take your car to a main dealer for this (unless they promise to do it FOC as a goodwill gesture) most tyre places have a spotty oik working for them who is an expert at removing locking wheel bolts. he did an apprentice in it when he was 13 , you should see him balance a car on house bricks ! Expert.

Why would any business do work for nothing? If it gets the result you want without damaging the wheels job done.

Do you have the key number ?? if so main dealer i would say

If you can match the pattern visually you can usually find them on eBay. Or even buy a whole master set!

Sorry to tag onto this thread but I have a similar problem, I left the key in the wheel after replacing the rear brake pads and lost it down the road somewhere. Anyway, I have the local dealerships on the hunt for a key with a number (the one I contacted probably has one but with no number stamped on it) but meantime I thought I would post a photo on here to see if anyone can help with the key letter or number code for my wheel nuts - here is the photo.

Also, I have been considering just getting them taken off and have been looking around for normal studs, can anyone tell me if the stud in the next photo is a standard R129 stud or is it a special of some kind (I have 5-spoke AMG wheels fitted).
