Hi,

I have just joined and not sure where to post this, but I have a check engine light on my car, no other messages at all, Ive had a look around at the Water levels ETC and when ive opened my oil filler cap it has a white covering over it.

Its a A250e (2021) so its ran alot of the time on Electric (I have a very short commute to work)

Could this be the cause of the engine light, the car was serviced 1 month ago.

Thanks

Wow, that is a lot of water/oil emulsion.

Is this a new purchase or have you had the car a while? Just asking, as if less than 6 months, supplying trader should sort it.

Welcome.

'Mayo' on the oil filler cap is normal, it's usually the result of short journeys where the engine oil does not get hot enough to fully evaporate the moisture it captures from the air.

However, it can also be the result of a failed thermostat, or a blocked crankcase breather.

'Mayo' on the engine oil dipstick, or oil in the coolant expansion tank, are signs of a problem.

If your EML is on, then there's no getting around having the fault codes read. Guesswork won't help here. Go see an independent specialist who has STAR, or invest in an iCarsoft, or both.

Wouldn’t call that normal.😬

While I would agree with that comment regarding something that’s used for short journeys and doesn’t get hot, it doesn’t look right for an engine that - presumably - had an oil change when it was “serviced a month ago”.

Possibly, though the OP should check the engine oil dipstick... if the dipstick has no 'mayo', then the 'mayo' under the filler cap isn't the result of a failed head gasket.

And, also mentioned other factors that can cause this.

Thanks for all the comments, my short journeys are normally done on electric, I try keep it fully charged.
I do when using petrol try and give it a "good run" normally drive in sport when I use petrol.
A250e doesn't have a dipstick and is electronic.
I have booked it in at the garage I have an extended warranty with expires next month (I know very lucky)

Hopefully it'll get resolved without cost to you.

Do come back and let us know what they find.
