ML63 2007
Hi,

First post and never owned a Mercedes. Got my heart set on a Ml63 (2006-2010 era) I have looked online to find potential issues and am gutted to find that the engine suffers from some serious issues. Having said that I am in no rush and happy for the time being to quiz sellers on work carried out.

So far would I be right in thinking I have made a good choice if Cam Adjusters and bucket issue sorted and head bolts replaced? Anything else to be aware of.

In to the engine research after head gasket failing on my current car RAV4, fortunately got an engine replacement under Toyota extended goodwill period due to known issue.

Cheers

Lee

Don't mind the fuel so much now, about to move to mainly home working, 1-2 days in office 15 miles away. Trips out that will be more fun

It's a shame they didn't put the 55k in the new ML.. Better engine

You wait until those M156 boys read that, popcorn at the ready............... lol.

I owned a W164 ML 420 CDi (twin turbo V8 diesel) and sadly wasn't impressed by the quality of it, although it is still a massive jump from the W163 ML!

I test drove an ML63 recently and found it a little underwhelming, I do prefer forced induction though so maybe a little biased in that respect...

One thing I will say is that they are not cheap to run, and that's not accounting for the £525 tax or mpg figures, that's repairs, I recall even BlackC55 stating his ML63 was very expensive to own.

I think an E63 or E55 estate would be a better bet or if your a proper 4x4 gangster that is ballin' then get a G55 or G63 :)

Lee, good choice, they're great cars. The chances of finding one with this work already done will be very very slim, and to find one where it's been done as a preventative measure ...if you do, then don't bother buying a lottery ticket on the same day as you'll used up your luck!

I really wouldn't worry too much, just buy a well looked after car, with good history, and then enjoy an amazing car.

He's right though. M156 is a one hit wonder that works great in small lightweigh chassis like 204 and 209. It never outperformed a M113K in 211 and hardly anyone wants them in anything big or heavy.

I have a face lift 2009 ML63 and love it, just done the power steering pump but I do all my own repairs so its just parts.
More than fast enough and handles very well.

Its hardly a one hit wonder. The ML63 6.2 NA does 0-60 in 4.8, and its the fastest NA SUV in the world. One hit wonder and slow? I think not.

That makes two of us then. My recent addition to the garage - sicssor lift. It's only a mid rise but makes life so much easier.

Not bad and not slow but weight is weight. Both M113K and M157 are a lot more tune friendly. N/A M156, same as M113, are best suited for the lightest chassis available as there isn't much you can get out of them to compensate for the weight increase.

MSL seems to take them to 530bhp and over 500torque with a remap.

Plenty lol.

Now compare it to the 600bhp 55K with just bolt ons or 700bhp remapped 63TT and it leaves a lot to be desired for the N/A 63 crowd.

A few of us enjoy them oem sir.

Thanks for the replies much appreciated.
