Hi guys,

I hoping to purchase a 2013 c350 with I think the m272 engine.

Is there much to look out for on these?

I have read about the timing chain (or balance shaft) but I think only the early cars are effected. Is this
correct?

Thanks

Welcome

I would have a thorough read of this article:

The Complete M272 Engine Thread

The engine effected by the issues you mention will be within a engine number range, out with this, they were fitted with improved/uprated components.
It is very possible a 2013 car would still be affected and prior to purchase you should check the engine number to give you an answer, purely on this issue.

No idea what else to look for apart from the usual pre purchase checks. No doubt you will have already found petrol versions in most MBs across the range are quite thin on the ground, as I found when looking for a CLS of the same vintage with the same engine as the 204 you are looking for.

The C350 petrol facelift model (2011-2014) is preferable to the pre-facelift, but they are extremely rare (in the UK).

Failure rate is vey small, nobody seam to know how many. It’s expensive to change the chains and sprockets. My CLK has same motor, very smooth and quiet no rattle on start up. So far 80k with frequent short journeys. Buy and enjoy.

Thanks guys, after doing a vin check, it turns out it is a m276 (later version)

I'm guessing this is a good thing?
