1986 300SL This has happened twice DRIVING along and after a while brake pedal goes to floor get home park for a few hours and it’s fine I have had it checked and can’t find anything .Anyhelp appreciated
Could be a slightly dragging brake causing old brake fluid to boil and therefore long pedal until it cools, or possibly a master cylinder fault. I’d be looking for a binding brake first and carrying out a brake fluid change too

Brake fluid change seems in order.
If it happens again, stop the car, put your hand near to the discs, I would say touch them, but I have a Golf rear caliper was sticking. It got up to 180 centigrade If one is very hot, that's the culprit. However my brakes didn't fade.

If you've had it checked at a garage, the water that has got into the braking system will have cooled, and the fault wouldn't show.
If the fluid is old and has some water in the system, if you've used the brakes for a while, the water boils, steam can be compressed, water can't. So when hot, your pedal may go to the floor. Hydroscopic, that's the word, brake fluids is Hydroscopic, it means that the brake fluid attracts water.
