Hi Guys, long time eh,
I hope you are all keeping well.

My A/C won't turn on - the light/switch just flashed a few times.

I'm thinking of trying a top-up gas/refrigerant gadget.

1/ Which ones should I go for ?
2/ Where do I locate my low pressure service point ?

3/ Maybe for another part of the forum, but I've been using Uniroyal RainSport tyres for a few years. I need a couple of tyres on the rear, but the Uniroyal ones seem to have moved down the "Best of,,,," list. Any suggestions for a good 'wet weather' tyre ? I guess my decent front ones will go on the rear and new ones on the front ?

all the best to you all
Baz

Just in case you are wondering, it's the car in my sig: 2007 E220 W211 (62200miles)

I would strongly recommend that you go to an AC specialist.

The residual gas needs to be removed and weighed and the system held under vacuum for a period of time to detect leaks.

Once they are fixed it needs to be regassed with the correct amount of refrigerant and the correct amount of oil.

You simply cannot do this correctly with the top up canisters.

If the AC on your W211 is pretty much the same as my W219 (they're the same car underneath), then it holds about 900 grams of refrigerant. Those top up canisters usually hold about 500 grams. So it'll be undercharged by nearly 50% Best to get the proper charge.

Plus until the remaining refrigerant is removed and weighed you cannot possibly know how much to add.

Also, until any leeks have been addressed what is the point of adding anything?

Indeed, that's why it should be taken to a garage that has a re-gassing machine 👍

Thanks guys,
apologies for the delay, but I haven't been receiving the 'notifications'.

I found the low pressure point - the smaller of the two.

I have a pre MoT check (next week with a bit of luck), so I will leave it.
Like thousands of other people - in all walks of life, we just 'like' doing things for our-selves - not just for the fiscal benefits (though they might be short lived) but just because we like it.

all the best to you all

About £40 at ATS with a Groupon offer, don't think a kit costs as little as that. ;)
