Im considering buying lowered springs for my CLK 220 d sport.
So i am already meant to have lower suspension ?
On autodoc they are quoting for the front anything between 376mm and 420mm length for sports susp. ??
Rear 314mm to 330 ??
So whats members experience of what spring length is good or not ??
I see a few adverts for springs on ebay but they just quote 40mm lower.
40mm lower than what ??
I want to know if i can buy the lowest ones, and will they be usable ??
Thanx Dave

There is a bit more to fitting lowering springs than just the spring length. You need to consider spring rates and shocker/damper ratings. I have a full Eibach/Bilstein set up on my CLK. I changed everything to make sure I had the right setup, mismatched springs and shocks can cause handling problems.

Thanx, but what if i want or need to change my springs and buy a set from autodoc, r u saying that might cause issues ??

As long as you don't go too low and or too stiff....then the factory dampers will more than cope. Many after market spring sets are designed with factory dampers in mind On my car (not Mercedes) I have Eibach minus 25mm springs all round on factory (but new) dampers. It transformed the cars cornering.

Another consideration must be the condition of your current shockers. If they have done big mileage they will be past their optimum performance and may well be ready for changing. This is the point where you have the chance to change to a matched setup, one of my rear dampers was shot so I needed to change both sides anyway. The front's were ok but I changed them to keep the four corners in balance.

Ok, think they are original shockers and springs, rears have H16 green letters, think ive seen that before as factory made ??
Cars only done 75,000miles so im going to remove the rear shocker and spring, take a look, check length etc and decide what to buy or not after that !!
Thanx guys !!

The original springs for sport suspension would have three blue paint markers on them, they are prone to breaking so yours could have been replaced with pattern parts.

I have a pair of genuine MB rear springs that have only done less than a thousand miles. I also have a pair of front struts with new MB springs, again in good used condition. They are for sale at sensible money if you want to keep it as standard sport setup.

Thanks guys, i removed the rear control arm, removed the outer, inner and shock bolts, took anglegrinder to control pan and hammerite painted it.
Saw that the spring had 3 blue paint marks, so they are original.
I measured it and was 318mm in length. I see on autodoc the shortest springs they are selling are 314, so dont think its worth buying new ones to lower it but 4mm ?? Some corrosion on the bottom part that sits in the control pan so anglegrinded it and painted. Likewise sanded bottom of shocker and painted that too. Saw that shocker has H16 in blue letters ! So is that original sport shocker aswell ??
Also saw that outer bush thats in the hub was weak/ moving so ive ordered 2 febi 21174 replacements. So going to do all that again tommorrow on the other side !!
