M104 engine still in production

Chairman RHD

We will never know since they dont seem to import the " rhd chairman" model to the UK, which does bear an uncanny resemblance to the w124 series under the skin.

IS the R Class really a 12 seater? I doubt if you can get 12 americans in there!!

Interesting to note that they are now 75% owned by an American Private Equity Firm, who bought the stake out from the banks which had bailed them since the firm went bust in the 1990's

Any bets on who will eventually own the outfit??

Interesting at the right price!

maybe thats going to change?
Looks interesting at the right price. I would like to get a closer look at the body shell/paintwork. The choice of cheap large (sub-executive) saloons has virtually disappeared from the British market. Remember the Vauxhall/opel omega/ senator, Ford scorpio/grenada, Toyta camry, Nissan maxima, Volvo 700/900 series. They all had smooth inline 6 or v6 engines and offered executive motoring at a fraction of the price ( servicing in particular!). Badge snobbery of the German brands (MERCEDES,BMW and Audi) did for them despite some of the better ones being made in Germany. Its argued that GM made SAAB its large saloon maker and Ford made Volvo its large saloon maker for Europe and it simply didnt know what to do with Jaguar. Maybe there's a niche out there for the right car at the right price.
see:- http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/downs/9323/sych600.htm
it appears to be priced at £23,500 in Australia! the wheelbase is stretched slightly from the old w124.
