Hi!

Can anyone recommend a good engine tech in the UK (ideally midlands, but can travel) with experience working on the M272 V6?

I have a C350 with the 3.5L 306bhp V6 57500 miles that makes a loud rattle associated with a brief drop in RPM after leaving the engine off for a while (at least 30 minutes) and restarting while it is still hot. There are no warnings on the dash but the noise definitely sounds like a chain.

I've taken it to 2 local mechanics, one has been upfront and said he didn't know, another advised an oil + filter change even though this was done only a month ago. I suspect it's timing chain related but this is an expensive repair and I don't want to throw money away.

Any help anyone could give would be very much appreciated as this is beginning to get on my nerves as no one seems able to diagnose this and I am concerned that running the car with it making this noise could eventually break the chain and destroy the engine.

Thanks,

Chris.

ok, so my engine isn't a M272, it's a M276
You may have the noise of oil pressure build up due to lack of return valves, I believe this technical bulletin might apply to your sound https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...kQFnoECAQQBg&usg=AOvVaw1ZHc6_9l0qDs2OOtErrVtY

I think you're right, I've found another youtube video of someone else with the exact same noise:

Yeah you'll need to find your whole engine number and replace parts as per bulletin and it also lists what you need

I had a similar problem, it was a while ago when I had a e350CGI, it turned out to be the high pressure pump running off the camshaft to the rear of the engine.
