M48 bridge vs M4

is the m48 bridge still operational? why does everyone only use the m4 crossing then ? the satnav doesnt even show this bridge. I'd rather drive an extra 10 mins than pay the £7.
Anyone know anything about this

Yes its still open, but has the same toll.

Thanks guys. I thought the M48 bridge was free.. ok that makes it pointless. Will continue by road down the M50. By passing the bridge

I've read the toll is being scrapped from the end of 2018

The toll only applies going into Wales. I used to think it was a deposit, in case I damaged anything of value in Wales, but I never got a refund on the way out again.

Hey mate. I use the m50 going into Wales and the bridge going out. no charge hahah

I have a tag which is great for beating the queues particularly if the rugby is on.

I only use the original bridge if the satnav indicates the traffic is too heavy on the M4.
