hey guys i have a e240 classic 1999. mu main fan keeps running on high speed mode, i had it checked out and they said that the micro computer on board, the electronic key and the electronic fuse box all have differetn program veresion and need to be reprogrammed to be compatible with one another, and that will solve the problem. any idea about this problem?... can anyone tell me how to reprogram these things and where can i download the software?

Is it a face lift or pre-face-lift model?

My understanding is that the control units usually are compatible with different SW versions while of course better to have the latest one on all. Non-compatible SW versions do exist though.

In any case, this isn't a PC with some accessories, you should deal with it at an MB shop or an independent who has the necessary Star diagnosis service tools and SW.

I'm assuming you don't want the dealership to do it from a cost-perspective... To do-it-yourself, you will need something on these lines:
-Mercedes STAR diagnostic system
-Correct firmware for each system to be updated
-A bag of courage (if something goes wrong, you may end up with a 'bricked' car)

If that doesn't put you off, this is an advert for a STAR system:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/mercedes-MB-c...36|39:1|66:2|65:12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1318

I would just get your dealer to do it... but I'm no expert in the matter, so someone may pop around and give some better advice.
Michele
