I had the opportunity today for the first time to have a close up look at a Maybach. It must rank as one of the most horrible looking cars about. What sort of person would actually buy one of them? 'More money than sense' does not come anywhere near explaining such a purchase. I understand the underpinning is not even based on the latest MB. Ugh!!!!

Everytime I spot one they grow on me, I agree they arent the prettist looking cars.

Could have been worse, could have ended up like this:

There not that bad at all, they share in fact quite a few lines with the newest s-class. Tastes do differ.

I find the new Phantom much, much, much worse. The Silver Seraph was a great looking car, elegant, classy. The Phantom has all the elegance of a concrete brick.

The Maybach is not the greatest looking car ever, but not a disaster either IMHO.

Mmmmmm. Rolls Royce is the one to have at that money. Maybach was a nice idea, but just not special enough to look at. The new S-class has some of the right elements, but so many design problems with these. The rear lights on this pic are so close together on the bottom row...I've seen those lights illumintated - looked AWFUL!

 Plus they don't make an estate car version:D

To be honest, if I had the money, I would definitely prefer the understated looks and more discrete appearance of the Maybach. I don't buy a car for other to look at or for them to think of it as special...

Even if I won the lotto tomorrow (a serious amount :D), I would not touch the Phantom with a barge pole.

Now, on the other hand, if a Silver Seraph in excellent condition came my way, I would definitely be tempted...

But hang on, you could look like Alan Sugar :D

I reckon The Maybach is just for posh Hotels to pick up posh guests and not so much for private use.

The Phantom on the other hand is amazing. I would have one of those if only for a laugh. I would never buy a Maybach

Lots of if's here.
From my point of view they all advertise something that should not be advertised. I think the previous model S class would be my choice - understated, has the comfort and doesn't flaunt it.

The Maybach is specifically engineered to perform in every day life as well as high speed autobahn transport - are the others engineered to such levels?

For some reason I don't expect that the Roller has been built to sit on 155mph all day.
