MB 606
On this side of the pond I cannot find any answers, I'm doing a MB606 retro fit in a late model truck. Can Somebody in here help me find a single mass flywheel that will bolt up to a eight bolt 606 crankshaft and has 144 teeth.

Thanks Jay

Hi Jay, you can fit any flywheel from a m102, m103, m111, om605, om603, om602, or om601, as they all share the same bolt pattern on the crankshaft.

The trouble comes from the crank sensor on the turbo engines, without the 6 tabs on the auto flywheel the engine wont run.

I don't think the diesel uses a sensor on the flywheel. My MB606 auto flywheel is smooth. Are the flywheels on the sprinter the same or different?

This may help.

I just went into the shop and took a look. Yes I see the sensor right above the starter mount and the tabs on the inside of the flywheel. I'm not going to be using that with my set up. I was just trying to find a simple solid flywheel. thanks

Finding a solid flywheel is the easy bit as they do interchange, I used the flywheel from a m111 when I did my 606 manual swap.

Are you planning on running it with a 603 pump?

Yes I'm going to use a 603. The easy bit in finding the flywheel is easy where you are but here it's not. Remember most standard trans cars were not offered in the states.

Any manual w124, or w201 flywheel will fit, early sprinters without daul mass flywheels will fit also.

These flywheels are all 0 balance type correct. I noticed on the old mercedes they looked to be externally balance.

Yes on these the crankshaft is balanced seperatly to the flywheel, so you can swap them without upsetting the balance.

I think it was older engines like the om617 and m116 that balance the crank and flywheel as one unit. I remember getting quotes for a manual m116 flywheel, and was asked what colour the markings on the crankshaft were. Apparently these marks refer to the balancing of the crank. Shame cos I wanted to manual my m117 560, but they want around £900 for the flywheel alone.

I think this is what I need for my application. From a early 2.2 sprinter.

There were no early sprinters in the US and no standard transmissions ever.
