Person A buys parts from the main dealer parts counter and so should come with a minimum 2 year warranty.

Mercedes-Benz UK - Mercedes-Benz Genuine Parts - Overview

Person B buys those parts from Person A and there's a problem with them. Person A confirms it was less than 2 years ago, but doesn't have the receipt.

Is the warranty transferred to Person B, and does not having the receipt matter?

I would guess that the contract is between MB and the purchaser ie the name that appears on the original invoice. I can't see a problem with person A taking the goods back but I can't see them entertaining person B

Without documentary proof of purchase /date of supply chances of redress virtually zero. Why would anyone purchasing a valuable part with a 2 year warranty not keep the receipt for at least 2 years?

The warranty is probably still applicable, especially as the original purchaser's identity may not even be known to MB in cases of-over-the-counter cash sale. So I don't think the transfer of ownership can be an issue when it comes to items that can be purchased anonymously.

At any rate the original purchaser may send an assistant to replace the parts on his/her behalf.

However as grober pointed-out documentary proof will be required - so the issue in this case is in my view the lost invoice rather than transfer of ownership.

So here's the detail.

I bought a set of alloys for the ML which haven't been fitted yet. Yesterday I noticed some milkiness beneath the lacquer. Very minor but present. I started thinking about a quick refurb before I fit the the winter tyres, and then thought if they're less than 2 years old then the warranty might refurb or replace them.

The guy I bought them from sold the car they were fitted to a few months before and was holding out for the best price in the wheels separately. The receipt for the wheels went to the new owner of the car with all the others, it told me which dealer he bought them from so it should be easy enough to confirm the purchase date for warranty purposes.

So in the context of milkiness and diamond cut wheels wha do the panel think?

honestly MB parts are terrible for warranty... Return even a new part and its hassle every time.

If its not a stock item (almost everything apart from consumables) they wont even take it back at all - im still convinced thats illegal.

Return for a wheel that has cosmetic issues that you dont have the receipt for and is more than a few weeks from purchase.... Good Luck!

One of the new wings that I bought for the SEL was dented... they wouldnt take it back... in the end after a lot of back and forth andthem fobbing me off, I got it for half price and had the dent pulled..

I'm quite happy with the wheels, but if they can be repaired or replaced now before fitting the tyres then that has to be a good thing.

I'll mention it to the parts department.

I think cosmetic appearance would be seen as "wear and tear"

No doubt they will tell you it is the result of using harsh acid-based wheel cleaning solutions, and given that you did not own the car the wheels were on, you can't even say with certainty this was not the case.

I managed to get a new 19 " wheel diamond cut wheel from my local MB dealership even though the wheels were 6 months out of their 3 year warranty.

One of my wheels sounded just like the one mentioned above ie. milkiness between the lacquer.

The wheel had already had a refurb to the outer edge by the previous owner.

I pointed out the wheel to the service manager at the time of service.

I just wanted his advice as to what my options were.

6 weeks later he phoned to say he had managed to get a new wheel from Germany at no extra cost.

I appreciated the circumstances are different to the one above but I would still contact my local MB dealer and explain the circumstances re purchasing the wheels and you never know...:)
