Coming up to a year with my used S213 E220d and it needs to be booked in for a service.

Plonked my details in the online tool and it’s about £500 for an oil and filter change.

Had this when I tried to book the CLS in recently. The cost seems to have rocketed from about £280 a year or so ago. I value a FMBSH but no way I’m being turned over for this.

The Marshall group who are the closest dealers to me state they will price match a quote from a genuine garage using genuine parts. Got a quote from servicingstop.co.uk for about £150. Anyone had any joy getting them to match in reality?

As desirable as a FMBSH is its not going to increase the value of your car at sales time compared to a FSH from a Mercedes specialist at half the price....and if there is a slight difference it certainly wont be close to what you will have saved by getting it serviced elsewhere. £500 for and oil change??? Bargain.....NOT! I like the way some on here seem proud to have there trousers pulled down at service time. "I paid a thousand pounds for a service and £300 for mud flaps!" like its a badge of honour.....more fool them. I do all my own work on all my cars (fitting tyres and paintwork aside). Come PX time they usually ask if its got a service history....I say yes....because it has....I service on time with quality parts and oil and keep the service book up to date and staple all my parts receipts in it.........end of usually. Not once have I ever had a dealer try to chip the PX price having seen the service book has no main dealer stamps. My wife is looking to change her A class.....2006 on 56000 miles full ALFAitalia history!....never been to the dealer since the warranty expired.....did he care?.....not one bit. Strong bid too as he reckoned it was be of the few cars of that age he would retail on his forecourt....so he will still make a tidy profit...factory history or not.

Good luck with servicingstop !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to be able to talk to the dealer I used (Inchape's MB Chester, now Cheshire Oaks) and they'd be up for a haggle. But then they started using a call centre and, at the same time, using MyService. The local staff wouldn't discuss pricing, just referring me to MyService.

To be fair, the last Service I had there, a few years ago now) was a basic B service and MyService had it for £249 so that was acceptable.

I do still get emails from them from time to time saying they'll match other quotes but don't know what the procedure is.

The brand you see often on forums where people say they've done a price match is Audi - some even getting them to match Halfords, I think it's called 'manufacturers service', pricing.

Things have changed or seemingly so I use Mercedes in Norwich which is part of group1auto who own all the Mercedes dealerships in Norfolk they quoted me £505 for a B service on an E Class 220D Coupe, they all charge the same but I used to get a deal on servicing.

It seems the days of giving good customers some reward are gone.

I will have my trousers pulled though as car is still in manufacturers warranty.

How did you negotiate that?

Local main dealer have carried out the annual service on my CLS for 10 years and this year just ramped up the price significantly and said take it or leave it.

Wasn’t planning to use them just needed a quote for them to price match.

Would that quote be using genuine Mercedes parts and is it for just an oil and filter change or the A Service which would include the extra checks?
Service A plus brake fluid and fuel filter. You can buy the genuine parts from a dealer for about £120.

Actual quote is £612 with MOT which is a staggering amount for labour.

It’s not just the cost it’s the fact that the price of the Service A has rocketed by a couple of hundred.

Service A or B or anything in between prices mean little unless you know exactly what you’re getting for your money.
I’d want to know what I’m getting for my hard earned both Labour rates and parts quality being used.

I’ll be honest I have never known anyone to be chuffed at the high price for servicing.

Like @Skd884 I used to be chuffed at the low cost of main dealer servicing but the dealer changed ownership and the potential for negotiation reduced even for very good customers.

I’ve found that the gap between the least expensive main dealers and well respected marque specialists has reduced over time for a like for like service, including all additional items which are due.

The big differences come when using a garages “standard” service which doesn’t cover the Mercedes schedule and doesn’t use original parts. Hardly a fair comparison.

Personally I would recommend to anyone that they should use whoever they trust most at the price point they’re prepared to pay, which varies by individual and location.

For some people that might be the main dealer, for some a marque specialist, for some other a local generic garage, and for the rest a mate or DIY themselves.

I'm sure it's set at bonkers levels simply to make ServiceCare, itself quite expensive, look like a no-brainer.

An A service on my c63 Main dealer was £286 if they supplied the oil etc or £189 if i supplied the oil etc which I did, Also why is brake fluid on your A service ?
