MB & VW Combine

Maybe some Skoda quality control will improve MBs image?

Never thought I'd say that

Interesting given that M-B and VW have gone in different directions (CDI and PD, respectively) up till now.

They've done it before : the first post war Audi , released in the early 1960's , was a collaboration between Mercedes & VW - body was made by VW and engine taken from the W110 .

Of course , back then , Mercedes owned the Audi name and sold it to VW .

It was a big success , just look at Audi now .

The V280 petrol uses a 2.8 VW VR6 engine IIRC :)

It does (did ;)), but M-B never got the newer 204 bhp V6 that's in my Sharan (IIRC the old VR6 was 174 bhp).

Ungrateful Upstarts that they are !

After all , WE started them off in the first place . The original VW prototype was built by Mercedes-Benz in the 1930's and designed by a certain Dr. Porsche who at that time was one of OUR engineers.

Seems to me that VW owe us .....

Yup and the hefty V class could certainly have done with the extra power :D

MB became major shareholder in Auto Union in 1958 sold it on to VW in 1962, I was in Germany just after that and there were loads of Auto Union then, they could shift. Bought a new Audi 100 in 1972 nice car but got wiped out by a French Juggernaut one year later. I could adjust the tappets in 10 mins, those were the days

gary
