Only does it noticably on a cold engine its rpm dependant, Did the old screw driver trick and you can faintly here it ontop of the S/c at the back of the engine.

You can really only hear it inside the car, There are no drive belts fitted to the car waterpump, pas, S/c alt etc all not operating so its either engine or box.

Got under the car expecting to hear it from the bottom of the bell housing with my ear to the screwdriver etc that sounds sweet! you can here the Engine oil pump from the front but again that sounds fine.=/normal this sound is higher up and it dissapears when at or and at 2,000rpm upwards

Another outside in engine bay

In the back ground

So im thinking Harmonic noise from solid engine mounts coming up through the bulk head, ANY takers?

Got to admit I can hardly hear anything amiss. These are not a quiet engine at the best of times.
Must be going mutton:D

Pardon? lol

I can hear that humming sound, not sure what that is.

Let me see if I have that noise from a cold start in my car.

Its the groaning in the back ground, sounds like a rough bearing, Its loader than what the phone has picked up. :( Almost echo's The wife noticed it so i know im not going barmy.

Sorry Gav but it only gets serious if it sings Ol sol Mio,I am in the camp that it is nothing much, but knowing you this means engine out :D

Could it be a whine from the oil pump Gav?

Couldn't really hear the noise from my car.

Sounds like it’s part of the supercharger whine.

Front and Rear pumps are completly different noise, My engine mounts are solid, think its normal whine from the rear autobox pump being harmonic through to the top of the lump seeing as the engine is solid on the subframe. Need new engine mounts me finks.

Try those nice rubber ones....So much more comfotable/quiet

I can hear something that sounds like a slight misfire?

You are correct buddy, See my update thread, This noise was also at the same time as the car had a missfire at Cold. Just done the leads so the miss "fingers crossed" is gone. Still got the little hum though.

I can't hear anything amiss but it's very quiet on the laptop I'm using but sounds like you have sussed it.

Sounds normal, the 'humming' is just the exhaust in the background.
