Merc offers!

Interesting - so for the price of a E280 CDi Avantegarde one can have a E320 CDI Sport....

AND - just what is Artico ? Isn't it plastic? Who wants plastic / vinyl seats - havent had those since the '70s............ does anyone have these ?

And only today I recieved an offer from two dealers where if you buy this weekend you get a luxury weekend away in a top hotel...

Tempting....Nah..!

I got that too - funny that it says it's exclusive to my local dealer!

The E Class offers engine offers look good - presumeably if you get an E280CDi for the price of an E220CDi then you effectively get the auto for free? And I wonder how much they'll be selling the E220CDi for - bearing in mind the other offers they ought to be under £25K.

I've looked at changing and would love an E Class, but the option prices kill it - adding heated leather, COMAND & phone and you're already over £4K, and it's easy to pile on a similar amount again. And it's money down the drain when you sell as those options are not built into the price.

Yep, you get it whether you want it or not with the Avantgarde package on my A Class. I suppose that I could have had leather but because its my daily drive I took what was in stock as opposed to a factory order.

Its not 'that' bad though really and it seems to be holding up well over the miles. In all honesty most people who are not in the know think its leather so I dont tell them any different.

Portzy.

Artico is described by MB as " a man made leather substitute " . It's an option on the SClass which costs £ 960.00. Which obviously is instead of plastic.

It's like the old MB Tex. VERY durable and looks pretty like leather, but isn't it hot and sticky?

Its really realy good actually. The only thing you don't get is the ruffled door cards and the leather smell. Apart from that its leather as you know it.

Blind testing joe bloggs without smelling it , i doubt anyone could tell it wasnt leather. Its also a lot harder wearing than leather.

Although in light grey it shows dirt readily and does look like vynil then.

But if it's good enough for Taxi spec then it should be good enough for us...

im sure you can only spec black on the E sport

I had MB Tex on my 300TD and I thought it was leather for a while (except it lasted better). I've got leather on the E280 so I am able to compare the two and to be honest, in look and feel there is very little to choose between them, other than the MB Tex still looked new at 450,000miles and the leather is showing drivers seat wear at 60,000.
So on that basis, I can't see any reason for paying extra for real leather, other than for the knowledge that it is leather. After all its only cow skin - not exactly high tech, and I would have thought that in this day and age we could come up with something better. Maybe this new MB Tex stuff is it!

IF i took a picture of my nappa leather seats after 9000 miles you would be shocked at how much wear is on them! Don't fancy their chances staying reasonable. Because they are sports seats the side bolsters stick up and take a bit more of a battering but you can see the heating element through the leather on them.

I wouldnt pay the extra for nappa again , Totally not worth the £2k for them. They are however very soft.

I suspect wear is related to user habits and care ...

The nappa leather on my CLK (53k miles) is still in excellent condition. Yes, there are a few lines, but they are not really noticeable and they actually add character. I regularly put gliptone on the driver's seat (most frequently used) and that has no doubt really helped

The difference between standard and nappa leather is quite great, and I would go for it everytime

My SClass is a working car as you know and has Nappa leather and it is in wonderful condition, it's done just over 80,000 miles and was five years old in June.
That is why I'm going for the Passion (the new word for Nappa) Leather in the 221.

Surprisingly few miles for a working car.

My client's are mainly business people and a lot of my work is in London, i do get up to Scotland and down to Devon though. I have a couple of clients who go shooting and fishing when they come to the UK. 16,000 miles a year is above average.

It will be for sale at the end of the year. ;)

Sorry, but the Artico on my A class may 'look' like leather, it certainly does not feel like it.

Thats why its being taken off and replaced with genuine MB anthracite leather in mid September. Once you've had leather anything else isnt ....................well just isnt..............
