As most members will be aware 'flip' keys as used with sevaral classes of MB are sold on E-bay. I have recently contacted my indipendent garage because I wanted another spare key but they are over £100.00 New and come from Germany coded to the ECU of the car. The garage claims that second hand or pre-coded keys cannot be re-coded.
Can anybody confirm that this is the case? Or has anybody managed to get such a key re-coded.
I find it hard to beieve that there are all these folk buying keys off e-bay some paying £20-30 a time if they are of no use, or it an image thing to have a MB flip key in your pocket?
Uncut key blades are also available, so it does sound as though some how, somewhere, these keys are being re-used.
I am aware of the re-synchonising procedure for existing keys but these need to be re-programmed to the ECU.
