As most members will be aware 'flip' keys as used with sevaral classes of MB are sold on E-bay. I have recently contacted my indipendent garage because I wanted another spare key but they are over £100.00 New and come from Germany coded to the ECU of the car. The garage claims that second hand or pre-coded keys cannot be re-coded.
Can anybody confirm that this is the case? Or has anybody managed to get such a key re-coded.
I find it hard to beieve that there are all these folk buying keys off e-bay some paying £20-30 a time if they are of no use, or it an image thing to have a MB flip key in your pocket?
Uncut key blades are also available, so it does sound as though some how, somewhere, these keys are being re-used.
I am aware of the re-synchonising procedure for existing keys but these need to be re-programmed to the ECU.

ive explored this avenue before, spoke to a guy who codes other types of keys and he told me that the MB keys cannot be recoded!

I went to the stealer and purchased a new one, but it was about £50, not £100.

Its possible that these people are buying them because they have an older car Then have a new key cut to fit their car and then transfer the inards from their alarm fob into the new flip key.

Sorry to disagree here but i've just bought a key and plip unit inc vat was £132.19. I was told they had gone up with a bump recently:(

I also spoke to the dealer when I was having open wallet surgery for a battery, and basically loads of prices have gone up since last year inlcuding the new keys, which to order need loads of documentation etc (passport, v5, first born etc)

I only bought mine 8 mnths back, wow prices have risen then!!!

cost of remote keys & re-programming.

yep It's right I was quoted £100 +vat 19/04/06 I was also told that the UK is one of the only Countries to not have re-programming facilities in the branches! However having got an owner in Monaco to check this out its not he case, they can't get them done either. So if there are other owners reading this forum outside the UK as I'm sure there are would you please make enquiries and feed back. I don't really think MB know just what is going on, at least that's how it appear. The spare parts manager was pulling his hair out yesterday his PC kept crashing. If they can't sort themselves out what chance have we got ?

So is this a scam??

Whose into gambling??? In respect of the keys & re-programming go to e- bay and put this number 4611166605 in the search box (its the item number) ???So is this another scam to get a couple of quide??? or genuine?? Being a bit of an old sceptic I have asked the seller a few questions but at present he's not answered!
And unlike most sellers he hasn't got his buyers comments on view for other buyers to view and there are 15 or 18 negatives! So should I spend my £2.00 on a large Ice cream???

My W202 remote was c. £55 with the VAT. The metal key is extra. It was ordered last year.

Lots of previous discussions on this subject - try a search.

Well I have given this guy far chance to answer my mails he hasn’t even acknowledged them. I have had contact from a large MB outlet in Huddersfield who quite simply confirm what everybody has been saying:-

Second hand Remote keys and even new keys that have been issued to any Mercedes-Benz vehicles CANNOT be re-programmed.

So buyers beware the guy who not only claims they can (See e- bay and put this item number 4611166605) where he claims MB charge £40.00 for the same service AND who also claims copy write to the procedure has yet another New Smart key for sale. After numerous telephone calls and e-mails my advise along with many other forum members is stay well clear.

Deffo a 99 with a large flake

I found something to do with my E-bay keys :bannana: Cut up up[ and see what's inside. Incidently Siemans have confirmed to Sergio SVC that they sell their failed fobs in batches so that the components can be used by hobbyists etc. so now we know where the E-bay are coming from :p
lofty

help how do I post my chopped up remote key fobs????
