As per title.

What is this sensor for? (See pictures)
I just installed a new fuel filter housing
The kit comes with a new and smaller bracket for this sensor.
The old bracket, shown in the image, doesn't fit the new housing.
I don't really want to mess with this assembly.
Is it a problem if I leave it loose?
How difficult is it to swap the brackets over?

Cheers

Water sensor. You didn't use VIN to get spare part? Bracket changed at some point, but not all models have sensor. You probably get an error or fault code if its unplugged, don't know where else it will effect, someone should see WIS document for function description of that sensor (none of my car have had that).

Thanks for the response.
Water sensor?
Ok.
Any idea what happens when it senses water?
Is it a leak sensor, temperature sensor?
The old FFH 6512001056 was one with two bolts connecting to the engine and three attaching it to the intake manifold.
The new one A6512006000, in the advert. has three bolts connecting to the engine and one attaching it to the intake manifold.
The latter is the recommended substitute for the former redesigned to eliminate the problem that caused the failure in the former.
I believe there were stress issues caused by the expansion and contraction during repeated heat cycles.
As you can see in the advert the part I purchased is also the recommended replacement for 6512000456 and 6512001556.
It comes with a smaller bracket.
Of course, you can only utilise two of the 3 bolts on the engine side because you only have two holes to screw into.
Anyway I'm thinking about just shortening the old bracket and leave it in place.
Unless it's easy to swap them over.

BTW.
You mention using the VIN to confirm parts.
I have an E46 BMW 2.2L SE
I always use the VIN for the Beemer because there is an online parts catalogue called RealOEM.com
It is amazing.
Type in your VIN and it finds you car an away you go.
Is there an equivalent online catalogue for the Mercedes?
