MERCEDES S213 E CLASS E220 D PREMIUM AMG LINE ESTATE 2017
Following unrepairable failure of a Factory fit Oris Deployable Towbar. A detachable replacement was fitted.
This also included a new 13 pin socket. Following fitment of the new Towbar a dashboard warning light came on , Which now constitutes a MOT failure as advised by Mercedes by email.
The car has been on the Star machine and Mercedes advice the only way to remove the warning is to switch off the Towbar electrics which then disconnects the wiring to the new socket.
It appears the company that fit the Tow bar used the existing wiring from the old socket and wired the new socket with this wiring, as I understand nothing else was changed
The question is was this correct way to wire the new socket ? or should a dedicated wiring kit have been used.
Has anyone else has a similar problem? Any assistance appreciated.

When you say "unrepairable failure of a Factory fit Oris Deployable Towbar. " how did it fail?? Was it the metal component or the electrical end of things?

Metal alloy casting inside the swing out mechanism had cracked, Mercedes parts advised No serviceable parts available no alternative but to replace towbar.

So, if I understand you right, the complete towbar was replaced, which should not have interfered with the electrical end, no need to disconnect the electrics at all, just remove the socket from the damaged towbar, and refit it to the replacement towbar? Unless I'm missing something here?

Mercedes wanted in excess of £2000 to replace with deployable towbar as fitted not in stock
As we were going away on Holiday next day with caravan need towbar sorted asap
Managed to get a detach towbar fitted same day £595 holiday saved and cost of
Thus how dash warning light problem arrived

So, straight swap, new for old and damaged towbar.....but normally in such a case, the cable and plug socket would be disconnected, the towbar changeover done, and the cable and plug attached....so theoretically no change to the wiring or electrics. What happened to the detachable part was a rare enough occurrence, I imagine...was it towing at the time?
