Sheer lunacy.

I need one of these in my life/garage, especially with the sort of figures that one's making. :)

Fuel consumption must be shocking, even compared to the AMG 'norm'!.

Can't really conceive what that level of performance must feel like in that type of vehicle. What size brakes must it need?.

They are actually pretty clean engines, should get mid to high 20's on a run and with that power 0-60 in the high 3's :bannana: definitely a potential future replacement for my E63

Expect 11-14 mpg for short urban cold start journeys, and 18-21 mpg for longer journeys cruising at the speed limit (ish).

Had a brand new GLE220d as a courtesy car the other day that struggled to get over 30mpg on a 160 miles motorway run, whilst the same engine in the E220d I had a couple of months back did between 60-70mpg! I bet you'll barely ever see double figures in that thing! Obviously not the point of a V8 AMG but stopping at a petrol station every 150 miles for a £120 fill up must get tedious

It's 200 miles ish, maybe a bit more, takes a while to fill with power though... it also eats through tyres (£150 a month) and brakes too. But given the choice, I sold my c63 and kept the ml with a remap :bannana:

That must be the equivalent of a new tyre every 5 weeks or so

Yep, I do 12k miles a year, so a set every 6 months and that's pushing it, they feel past their best after 5k. I've tried contis, Pirelli and now avons, all disappear almost as quickly as fuel. How many miles do you get out of yours?

Not worked it out, although we've had the older ML63 4.5 years and 46,000 miles, and during that time we've had one set of winter tyres (need to be replaced before the next winter) and one set of summers tyres (with plenty of tread remaining but not measured for a while). On that basis we must be getting 25,000 miles out of each set.

We've had the newer ML63 10 months and 10,000 miles, and it stayed on summer tyres throughout, and the tyres have plenty of life left in them, so I'm expecting something close to the older car.

Do you know which tyres you have on the newer one?

Hi,
Our 2015 ML63 also eats tyres and brakes.
After only 50,000 kms - it is on 3rd set of rear pads plus rear discs refaced and 2nd set of front pads and discs need refacing or replacing (as brakes are now squeaking on left turns and reverse).
I think we have already bought 10 new tyres at the last count!
Cheers
Steve

Pirelli P-Zero on both cars. Interestingly both were supplied by Mercedes on Porsche spec (N0?) tyres rather than Mercedes spec (MO) tyres, not sure if that might explain the extra longevity or not though.

Thanks I will try them and as I've had a new set put on last week they only have 25 weeks of life left!

Ours is on its 3rd set in 17,000 miles, maybe it's different types of roads and/or the remap.

Mercedes quoted me for some pads and discs at last service, horrendous, I could have leased a different merc for 18 months and had money left over, but look elsewhere and the same pads are less than £160 plus fitting all round.

Is the wear even across the width of the tyre or is it wearing unevenly?

Hi,
Funnily enough - ours is also on Porsche spec Pirellis ( as they are easier to obtain here than the MO versions).
Ours wear quite quickly - but evenly across the treads.
Tyres are reasonably priced here (if you don't buy them from the Mercedes dealer!).
It's the brake pads and discs that are expensive here - and there are no aftermarket brands easily available (like ECP or Demon Tweaks etc.)
Cheers
Steve

Acid, has the exhaust been tinkered with? It sounds really angry!

588 BHP (stock) sounds spot on for the published figure for the GLE63s, how does 663 BHP (tuned) compare to a tuned ML63?

Just trying to work out whether the relatively higher output of GLE63s (compared to the ML63) is purely down to software, as was the case with the ML63 Performance Pack model?
