Hi,

I'm after good workshop repair manuals for both my Vito sports a 2008 W639 (for sale) and a brand new 2019 W447 sport.

I've come across this on ebay:

Mercedes Vito Repair Manual

Has anyone tried them? Can I trust them????

I've tried in the past to get a proper workshop manual for my Vito W639 - I paid an ebay guy circa £12 and downloaded a massive file set. It was based on setting up a virtual computer to access / run the files. The download didn't work. So the guy sent me a number of DVDs and some slightly different instructions. He seemed like he genuinely wanted to get this working. But it still didn't work and he disapeared! I figured at £12 it was worth the gamble. That said, I could have installed who knows what virus etc.!!!

So this different link (above) is also based on setting up a virtual machine. They operate a live chat where he assured me one way or another they will get it to work saying that other ebay sellers typically don't understand how to set this up whereas he does.

If all else fails I EVENTUALLY found what appears to be the official MB repair manauls and parts catalogues for WIS, ASRA and EPC. I haven't established the cost of this - yet. Anyone with experience of this?

I use VW/Audi's equivalent "Erwin" for my caddy which is pretty good at 8Euros for an hour in combination with the excellent diagnostics VAGCOM AKA VCDS. But the equivalent for a MB are proving to be a pain with what appears to be a £600 preloaded laptop!? That said VAGCOM's OBD II talks to the MB engine which diagnosed low fuel rail pressure.

Cheap CDs or downloads off eBay are a lottery. I've had three - two MB, one Jaguar - and they worked OK, though one needed several attempts to get it fully loaded, but others have had problems. The £600 laptop will presumably be a cheap Chinese Star clone; they're a lottery too, but at £600 a pop quite a pricey pop.

If you have a decent, up-to-date security suite you shouldn't need to worry about downloading anything nasty, but I always do a command scan before opening new non-proprietary software anyway.

They all claim they're not infringing copyright, but I have my doubts. The Chinese generally don't seem to believe in copyright, or at least not in other people's copyright, so anything from there will almost certainly be pirated.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the MB WIS. It's pretty user-unfriendly and clunky, but you'll no doubt get the hang of it eventually. My main problem is that I use it so rarely, each time I open it up I've forgotten everything again...
