Made an interesting discovery today.

Anyone ever come across this?

Which reminds me, anyone agree that the R170 SLK is more of a "spiritual" successor to the pagoda SL than any SL version that followed it?

Wow! I like that a LOT! MB meets Citroen meets Jensen!

Yes , it is in the Setright book "Mercedes-Benz Roadsters" .

Looks more Lancia to me. I wouldn't say it was an improvement over the stock look.

I agree! Maserati Sebring profile for sure! :) I also prefer the pagoda, but as a design study by Pinifarina (Tom Tjaarda) it looks pretty good to me.

I'm sorry, but I think that's horrible. The Pagoda's one of the most elegant classic car designs ever IMHO and messing with it is just wrong.

Cheers,

Yes, I've often thought this myself. In terms of length, the 190SL and Pagoda were roughly half-way between the R170 (around 4m) and the R107/R129/R130 (all around 4.5-4.6m, as was the W198 roadster).

maybe this where the got the idea to the w107 slc shape from look very similar in styling
