I am looking for a late series Mercedes SL R107. The car must be in very good condition along with being in original factory specification.

Ha ha, you're right there John :thumb:
Very observant...

The missing hard-top would bother me, I love being able to change the look and feel of the car as the seasons change.

I'd forgotten about the headlight wipers on mine, they don't work and I've not been inclined to fix them because I gather it's hard to do and real world benefit of having them is negligible in my opinion. That said - if I was spending £20k I'd want them to be either present and working or missing because they weren't originally specified.

Are the chrome bumps on the bumper tell-tale signs this car had them originally or did they all have them?

That they don't work on mine does niggle, it's 30 years old this year so I took it over to see Barry Price yesterday to look at doing an anniversary tidy up, maybe I'll look at the headlight wipers this year too.

Take them off Dave. The most useless unnecessary and ugly option ever fitted to a 107.

imho. :D

Plenty hardtops come up on ebay. I wouldn't discount a good car just because it's missing. Good point to haggle over.

Dave, The hard-tops were individually fitted at the factory, that is why they have the cars chassis number stamped on them, so a second hand one may have fit problems. The headlamp wash/wipe system was standard equipment on the late series 420,500 models and optional on the 300. Personally i like the retro look of the headlamp wash/wipe, and having original parts missing on a 107 will only devalue it.
Barry Price will certainly be able to give you guidance on restoring yours.

Hi Standley,

Sorry if we dragged your thread off topic slightly, hopefully it's somewhat useful background. I'm interested to understand how you're getting on. Have you seen any other cars advertised you like the look of?

Cheers,

Dave

This looks nice.

Wow, that was a great example and would suit nicely .. are there many in this color combo?
