SO, just had the MOT done and it turns out that there is play in the LH control arms on the front suspension and the RH spring is broken (but at the very bottom so v. hard to spot). No worries, not messing around with the spring - I have mate in a local garage who can have that joy (and risk)!!
I have ordered a set of both arms and new drop links (might aswell as they've been on for 4 years or so); my question refers to the two control arms on each side (which I shall replace on both sides). The rear one is easy as I can see that it attaches to the hub front underneath and can access both top and bottom of the joint to remove it. The front one puzzles me slightly - the top is located under the strut assembly. I assume that one just splits the hub from the bottom of the stut tower (did this before to take the strut out last time a spring broke but didn't pay any attention to the rest of the hub when I did the job) so that one can access the top of the ball joint to pull it out of the hub assembly??
Grateful if someone can confirm this is correct before I proceed as online references/pictures aren't 100% clear and i'd like to get a feel for the whole job before I start (if nothing else just to set warn off SWMBO and manage her expectations of how long I will be "wasting my time on the car!").
Thank you in advance for any comments received.
