Mercedes SLS forces sale

Last line might be truthful given the value of the plate and also the work on this car.

Looks like somebody with cash has owned this one .........

Looks very well looked after. But that is just a ridiculous amount of items that needed changing/replacing on that car!

I've always thought that adverts boasting how much they've spent on maintaining the car could be counter productive.

The plate's not all that valuable; reverse-issue, picked up at auction a few years ago for well under £3k, and a similar one sold last year for about the same price.

Certainly doesn't give him SLS credentials in and of itself, although the money that's been spent maintining this car may be a better indicator.

Saw this one yesterday, more like divorce or bankruptcy forces sale, why sell the plate as well? Stick it on the matchbox SLS!

Only kidding ccporth Im sure your loaded!!

Why sell it after spending all that money???

I know what the seller is on about- i am selling my 211 E320 cdi due to new SLR Maclaren....

I think it depends on the car. If there are cars with a litany of issues and things that do go wrong (W220/C215's with ABC issues, W140/C140's with evaporators for example) when it does not matter how they are driven or maintained but simply that certain things will fail, then it is better to list them upfront as it give reassurance to the buyer that the issues have been addressed.

If there has never been any work on the ABC/suspension on a W220/C215 and the car is a few years old, then it is only a matter of time before your friendly indie presents you with a £4000 bill for the struts and another £1000 for the ABC pump, valve blocks etc.

But all of the above only applies to where the expenditure has been on known issues. If I saw a W140 S500 with a replacement engine or 4 gearboxes then I would query what is going on since they very rarely ever fail.

oh...and I am only selling my LS400 since I have two McLaren F1's arriving

Just to add, I have a Mercedes SLS convertible on order for march next year, so it will be forcing a sale soon....

I really wouldn't trust anything this seller says.

Looking at his separate auction for the registration, he's described it as "rare". Surely all registrations are unique? Ok, so he means that "PSP" is a rare combination:

PSP is a rare combination of letters. I know 1 and 2 PSP have been issued. I am pretty sure, after a little research, that 3, 4 and 5 PSP have not been issued yet.

Wrong. It's very easy to find out that all the numbers from 1 to 8 have been snapped up, with 8 PSP going for a hammer price of £2600 just a year ago. His starting price of £9000 for 6 PSP makes him a dreamer.

But to be fair, though, if he does have an SLS on the way there are a few clues amongst his other auctions as to how he may have made his fortune:

Or maybe he's just one of these:

After all, he's asking £75 (+ unspecified postage) for series 1-6 of The Sopranos on DVD (used), when you can get them new from Amazon for under £50 delivered.

Don't ya just love eBay!

Not really sure why people should think the OP cannot afford a SLS just as s/he is selling a E class and some random bits?

It makes me smile when I see brand new cars on the road outside terraced houses (not London) where the car will be worth almost as much.. So what though if that's what you want.

As long as the OP come and joins the forum with the SLS all is good :)

Have to say as immaculate as the car may be now, the bills sound very bad to keep it that way... Makes you think as these cars are now starting around 12K what bills people will face.

I agree, I am sure we will all welcome him with his new SLS.

I just won't be holding my breath until his first post....
