mercedes year of manufacture?

Hi everybody.
I am trying to establish the actual year of build/manufacture for me c270 cdi se auto, registered in sept 2004.
Vin WDC2030162R163581
Any help appreciated

Thanks for your reply, sorry for slow reply as I have been away for a few days.
I am a little confused, as Vin on registration cert and on car is WDC2030162R163581 and apparently the 10th digit is year (whether this is year of manufacture or model year start?), I am not sure. From Russian website I did find manufacturers release date as 20/08/04 and delivery date 15/09/04, with first reistration 30/09/04 on reg cert. I know from working in the car industry for many years that car can be built and be unregistered for a long time before first registration, which makes it difficult when ordering spares and being asked vehicle reg number, if as in my case Vin is possibly saying 2002. If you have any ideas on this I would be most interested.

My 10th digit is also a 2, my understanding is that 2 = right-hand drive, if the 10th digit is a 1 then the car is left-hand drive.

Don't think that date thing is accurate and the release date of 20/08/04 ties in with the other dates and will be the most accurate date as far as any manufacturing changes are concerned

the 04 bit of the order number is the year of order is it not?

Hi,
Some of the parts on the car will have a date stamp, which could give you an indication when the car was on the production line. I found 08/98 on the front kick panels of my AMG, Which ties in with the delivery date of October of this year.

Used to be printed on the seat belts so you could check without even removing any parts.

Thanks for a great responses, which lead me to believe that the order, release, delivery and registration dates give a better indication of manufacturing month/year than the Vin number.as forum members have indicated.
