My daughter has just bought a 2015 ML 350 AMG Line which has 2 new cheapo tyres replaced by the dealer and a couple of premium tyres with about 6 mm on.
She wants to replace at least the two new tyres which means either buying 2 more of the originally fitted tyres ( don't know the make ) or swapping all 4 .
I have suggested to her that, especially as her husband will be using it daily to commute and has not much driving experience on ice or snow, she might be better to Michelin Crossclimate tyres on it rather than summer tyres.
Any thoughts or experience of using them ? Thanks

No experience on a 4x4 but I was able to get up the hill at the bottom of my road in the snow when those on summers couldn't and I have not noticed any issues over the summer vs 'normal' tyres.

We are apparently expecting a revisit of the Beast from the East again this winter so I would say it is a good idea.

I'd agree

If replacing tyres now and don't need premium dry performance then any of the leading all seasons make sense (esp on a capable 4wd)
Don't mix them with summers though.....

And I saw that weather forecast....
Am about to put my set of winters up for sale as use of car has changed though ,typical :wallbash:

Thanks , the proposal is to put 4 new tyres on the car and eBay all four of the tyres the car came with

I decided to stick Crossclimates on my car last autumn on the basis that they'd be OK in summer and an enhancement on some winter occasions - and if we had a really bad winter then they could be very useful.

This winter wasn't much of a test for them. So I have no experience of using them in challenging conditions. They've been fine in summer. They haven't 'gone off' as the temperature has headed into the teens and higher this summer. The kicker though has been how quiet they are. Big improvement over the previous set of tyres. Though it means I notice my engine a bit more.

So at this point I'm happy with them. They are pricey - particularly if you can't find a deal. I'd replace with another set of same next time around.

Put Mitch cross climates all round on E class. Improved ride & safety is great.. having done research its not far off 4x4 grip in bad weather. That said bought another 8 tyres for my daughters. I got a deal on Top Cashback :)

probably old thread now but Blackcircles are giving £40 off a full set.

Thanks, will let my daughter know

Another thumbs up for the CrossClimates. I put them on my W205 when I had it and they were brilliant all year round. I got caught in a heavy snowfall while the car was parked at work. By the evening the car park had a good covering of snow and quite a few cars were struggling to get off the car park. I expected the worst, however, I was able to drive the car off the car park without any issues at all. I'll be putting them on my current car when the time comes to change the tyres.

I just changed my tyres out for these when I couldn't get a full set of goodyears so went with Michelin so far seems good.

All very well unless you want 17" for the rears of an S204, IIRC 245/40 R17. I have 225/45 R17's on the front but can't find ANY all weather tyres 245/40 R17!! Will have the same problem if I buy the SLK as its rears are 8.5J x 17 with 245/40's, currently Hankooks, don't know if you could fit 225/45 to an 8 1/2J rim!

225/45 17 tyres will fit on 8.5j rears. I did this when I first started using winter tyres on my C32 AMG as the handbook recommended 225/45 17 all round for winter tyres, instead of the the usual staggered set up for summer. I only ran them like that for a season or two though as I bought a set of winter wheels, in the correct 7.5j all round, as recommended by the handbook.
