ML 270 turbo is intermitent?

Hi guys. Just been out and stripped out my EGR valve cleaned it up as I thought this may be the problem as its been an odd problem for two weeks now. Sometimes it's ok and then other times nothing? Cars done 100,000 now and it's a 2001 model. Any ideas before I go and pay out to put it on a Star tester? What's the chances the ECU is at fault? I'm guessing rare as it either works or not. Maybe MAF sensor not reading correctly and what's the sensor in the pipe just before the EGR valve?

Oh forgot to mention no strange noises nothing out of the ordinary. Pipes all seem to be ok cant see any cracks. ? Though with out taking all covers off to get at turbo. Will assume the waste gate for the turbo is fine. Again because its not usually an on/off problem in my experience of petrol turbos?!

It will either be the EGR or the inlet port shutoff motor, not working properly.

What dya mean by 'intermittent' ?

Does it go in to Limp Mode sporadically when you've given it some beans?

Hi guys. Thanks for reply.

Doesn't go into any limp mode or any real problems. For instance went out in it last night turbo hardly worked. Then i had to go into work this morning and again its like having a turbo less car. Then on way home it was back and we are flying of from traffic lights and on motorway like she use too.
When problem occurs there is acceleration but I feel it's just the natural pull from the engine without help from turbo. I can watch the revs go up slowly nothing as sharp or higher reving as when turbo actually works. When turbo works the revs will show to be sort of 25000 more or around.
Dieselman, will look for the motor thingy you talk of and check it out, did EGR valve yesterday and it works fine suction pulls the valve up no problem with diaphgram.
What's the thoughts on either MAF or MAP sensor being faulty??

So on looking through older posts the inlet manifold motor and its flaps have been a recurring problem on 270 models. Will have a look for this motor is there any photos on this subject?

Dieselman!! Are you still doing the EGR mod kit??? I would love to buy one of you as I have the vacuum type valve. Please
