Is anyone aware of any problems with the auto box on the ML280, mine seems to be very lumpy when driving in trafic especially when changing up from 1st to 2nd and then back down again. Was wondering if this was normal or should i take it in.

Hi Bert, several things, if it only does it when its cold, that is normal to warm up the CAT.

When these cars were built the gearbox was sealed for life, things have changed and the fluid and filter should be changed at 40k miles.

Those that have had it done report much smoother changes

Hi Malcolm,

It seems to do it hot or cold so maybe a visit to the dealer is required plus its only done 1,000 miles.
Thanks
Bert

Ouch thats brand new and very nice, in the morning someone else will comment with luck. I have heard of MB doing a reprogramming of the ECU.

Wait till the morning

The 7G gearbox has known issues with low speed jerkiness. Sometimes a software update will cure it. The other fix is a new valve body, a well known fix.
BTW my gearbox is as smooth as a babys backside, I have had none of the jerkiness issues.

Seconeded.

Thanks guys for the reply's i will be booking mine in to the dealers this week and hopefully getting it sorted.

at 1000miles ?
These autos boxes are diabolical:eek:
Bit harsh? I'm aware the early seven speeds had a few issues but thought this had been resolved. Folks sometimes join a forum to get advice so do we get a tilted view of problems?
