Here are a list of mods that I am contemplating doing to my Fathers W140 S-class:

Xenon Headlamps; am thinking that xenon type bulbs is going to be the easiest option here.

Parktronic; how easy / costly would a front and rear parktronic install with audio and visuals displays?

Electric Memory seats, the car already has heated electric seats but I would like to add memory. Is this a difficult job?

Auto dimming rear view mirror; is this a straight forward mod like on some of the other models.

Re the seats , it would be much cheaper to source the parts from a breaker, as all of the parts are very expensive.

All of the other mods are straight forward and info on this site

Yes, easy but illegal...

Regards the seats, what would be involved in upgrading the electric seats to memoryones, is the memory controlled by the switch panel or is there another module?

Regardless what the majority of you guys say here about xenons being illegal, its only the very cheap knock off kits that tend to be!

Erm, did you miss this thread then?

Look at and read the Daniel Stern link, it's very illuminating

You'll get the full explanation from Daniel Stern's site but it's pretty straight forward really.

Fitting a xenon bulb into a light unit not specifically designed for xenon bulbs (and using it on the public highway) is illegal....

Tan, I have a W140 500S Saloon (1992) that has all you are looking for ( I think) I am breaking it :D

Find me some sort of motoring law, in regards to them being illegal, and I'll more than happily accept it.

Memory Seats require a whole new loom IIRC and of course switches, door cards etc... not worth it IMO..

Parking sensors - MB ones are expensive... i would get a quality aftermarket kit with the displays professionally integrated into the interior..

Xenons - Plenty of info in the link...

I don't know the relevant legislation but if a supplier of these kits (www.hids4u.co.uk) states they are then I'm inclined to believe they are.

"Aftermarket HID kits are not technically road legal as you are replacing a halogen bulb with a gas discharge bulb. This means the gas discharge bulb cannot be E marked and is therefore not road legal. Do not be fooled by sellers claiming their kits are road legal, they aren't. "

I don't want quotes I want legislation!

Why would a purveyor of these kits make a statement like that, if they were in any doubt that it is illegal?
