MOT changes effective from March 20th 2013. Mainly the new items that were introduced in Jan 2013 as advisorys which will now be part of the test and cause a fail if the fault is present.

So if you buy a car fitted with towing electrics you'd better make sure they work, whether you intend to tow with it or not!

Good thing I got my 210 done a month early, now I have another year to fix the SRS light.

The absurdity of all this though. I drive a 1949 car without seatbelts, airbags or crumple zones. The drum brakes are next to hopeless for emergency stopping and not so great for ordinary braking either. That no longer even requires an MOT, but even if it did, it would pass with standards that later cars that are infinitely safer and cleaner even when mildly defective are going to be failed.

Just imagine how many cars with the full suite of airbags are going to start being written off when they need replacing.

erm sorry 4 being thick but how do they test airbags are working , wivout setting them off?

The system performs an electronic self-test, and illuminates a warning lamp if there is a fault.

MOT pal told me female with Honda Civic turned up last week with exhaust system replaced with fake cat. Failed emissions miserably and angry female sent on her way F-ing and blinding and threatening to sue.

Apparently had the whole garage staff outside in stitches and waiving goodbye. :bannana:
