Took the CLS to MB Swindon today for it's test. Sat and watched from the comfort of their new customer 'cafe', very swish. Nice cup of freshly made coffee brought to my table with magazine and WiFi password.
Tester went about his job, I was getting a little concerned as one after another tech came over to look at the car, tester pointing at this and that....

After ~45min the car was driven away, returning 20min later and reversed into the valeting bay. Chap inspected the paintwork and started spraying stuff over each panel and carefully buffing off before moving to the next one, each time inspecting his work. Out came the vacuum cleaner and he busied himself inside. More sprays and clean cloths (he dropped one which went straight in the bin!) and he wiped around the dash ect.

50min. later he called the tech leader over, who inspected the car and drove it round to the customer parking.

Service manager came over to me pronounced the car passed and ready for me. £55 paid and away I went.

My word, I have to say they did a fantastic job on the cleaning! Glass sparkled, leather smelt wonderful.

Top marks again for MB Swindon :thumb:

Nice to hear something positive about a Dealer, its always easy to say negative things rather positive.

Glad they done a good job and it passed :)

Have to say over the last 10yrs they have treated me very well.

Greeted at entrance by name and offered refreshment, they clearly knew the reason for my visit. Even if I drop in without an appointment, same greeting, followed by how can we help?

1st class :)

Out of interest, why did they take it out for a drive?

They didn't, they took it to the wash station behind the workshops.

The two times my car has been road tested (in for suspension setup) the sevice manager advised me it was going out and a service team leader accompanied the tech.

Sounds like excellent service. Hope someone from MB Head office reads the thread and spreads the word.

I have used MB Ayr during my ownership of the CL. Over three years and not a bad word to say about them. My Jag needed an MOT the other week.....MB Ayr £30... free wash and dry for the car, free coffee for me. Also took my Suzuki Vitara....same again.

The OP had an expensive car wash and coffee by the sound of it. :wallbash:

MOT is £29.95 where I live at local garage. :bannana:

The OP is happy enough to share - everything else is secondary.

Well mine is £29.99 too. Halfrauds auto centre. I took my very first car there for it's MOT and they pretty much written it off. So I'd always dismissed them as being overly strict to garner business.

I took the Merc there for it's MOT last month and it passed with flying colours, not even an advisory. :D

Always take my 2 cars there and never had any unnecessary work recommended.

They have done work for me for the price of a few beers not related to the MOT, so I have no complaints, and have done work for free also. :)

Not every cheap MOT garage is a rip off. :p

I own a small Motor Factor business in my local town and supply alot of local garages replacement vehicle parts, some garages are very good and other's not so when i worked for a Large Motor Factor's in essex some of the National account garages were dreadful.

Like you say best stick to one you trust.;)

I too have had some good and not so good experience with MOT -One branch of Halfords -always recommending lots of work-now use one garage only and always been very good South Hants Volvo -Soton although a few miles out of the way always fair and look after the old barge as well!:thumb:

I have owned a lot of cars over the years, and know to avoid Halfrauds/ex-Lucas Autocentres, at all cost, even if they offer to work for free.
