My Biggest AMG Disappointment

I'd like to share this with you all, as it's really bugging me!

When I bought my S65, I failed to notice that the one thing I was looking forward to the most, was not there. I was deeply looking forward to seeing the lettering 'V12 BITURBO' lit up in the instrument cluster each and every time step into the vehicle.

Having seen other CL65's, and S65's of the same era online, I know this was a nice little touch AMG put into these cars. The same for the CL55's, and the S55's - 'V8 Kompressor'. The top speed was also raised to I think 220MPH.

After noticing this a few weeks into ownership, I immediately started to hunt around for pictures to see if ALL S65/CL65's had this, and I was re-assured to find they don't. I found a number of pics, and zoomed into the cluster (sad I know), and a number of them didn't have it!

So my question is was this an optional extra? If not, what could possibly have happened to the original one out into my car?

I have found one on Ebay, but it's the best part of £600! And I'm not entirely sure it would be compatible....Help!

You know it's a great car, save the £600.00 and get a neon pen and write it on

It will be compatible... Any cluster can be coded to your car with star.

These clusters are known for breaking... Perhaps some previous owners replaced them with second hand ones. The cluster can be taken apart, there must be a company that will be able to make you the fascia which is easily removable/replaceable.

My cluster recently broke and I replaced it with a cluster from an s500 and then swapped the fascias over so I still had the AMG logo.

I know it's sad to let this minor detail bug me, to the point I write a speech about it online. But it's sooooo frustrating! I feel cheated! But yes, maybe a neon pen, or a well positioned sticker will do the trick!

No no no. Don't write it on your cluster because that will always be there. Write on the inside lens of a pair of Aviators that you put on when you get in. If you put it on both lenses, it will appear 3D. :devil:

The only issue I can foresee is if I move my head, but my eyes are still looking at the cluster, the lettering won't be there. I would therefor have to keep my head still, and only move my eyes around...... It could work

I have a 600 v12 and my speedo only goes to 160mph. Am I able to switch the fascia and reprogram for a 200 or 220mph AMG fascia? Or do I need to swap the whole cluster.

From what's been said above, it may be possible! Surely the SL63/SL65 had something different?!....it may be worth going in ebay to see what you can find...

I thought all of the 65's had this cluster. I remember vaguely reading somewhere before of someone who noticed the same as you in that the cluster had been replaced. Not a major issue but can imagine that you want the right one in there just like I would. Picture of mine below

You "should" be able to switch the fascia and reprogram the cluster to 200/220 mph as far as I know.

Edit: just realized your car is an SL which I'm not sure about although I don't see why it would be that different...

Fair enough. How about attaching one of these to the roof lining?
