I've mentioned this before , but never elaborated .

My father , who had driven MBs since the early 60s , got an invite to the launch of the W123 series at Prestonfield House Hotel on the south side of Edinburgh , circa 1976 ; I hadn't long passed my driving test .

Around that time , my father had complained about his eyesight , and had been referred to various specialists , from which he received certain assistance ,due to restricted vision .

Perhaps should Winston have said " Never in the field of human vision has so much been said too so few "

Then he might have gone on about such developments as RADAR , SONAR , the jet engine , supersonic flight ; the move from the AVRO Lancaster to the AVRO Vulcan ( space age stuff at the time ) . Carburettors to fuel injection ; drums to disc braked .

The list endless .

Much , if not all of it , being British . It is also fair to say that the Germans , and the Japanese , were also at the forefront of technology , but the war was already lost before any contribution of theirs could help ; the V-1 cruise missile perhaps being their most successful if not their most influential ?

Meanwhile, back in reality…
disbelievers abound

much of what i wrote was edited and lost.

I know I'm right and you're wrong , and I really can't be bothered debating it , because I met him , and you clearly didn't . I got my drive with him in the cW11 concept car , and you didn't , and i got to correspond with him over subsequent years , and you didn't .

Nothing will change that . Bye .

Maybe try again in the Morning?

You are a newcomer and a little nobody ; your opinions have no weight with anyone .

Farewell ( and that is a kindness , unless you realise what the expression means ) .

Germany didn't lose the war because of its technology wasn't advanced enough... it lost the war because of its crazy dictator who made all the decisions alone, crucially including many bad ones. Hitler was a great orator, but he was no military strategist, he should have left the business of war to his generals (whom he didn't trust). Luckily for us, he didn't.

No argument there ; I had typed a whole lot more , but due to a computer/networkabbration it was mostly lost and I really couldn't be bothered typing it all again ,besides I have limited tolerance towards people with negative contributions here.

I would’ve been fascinated to read the story of a meeting with this fascinating man.
