Hello,
For a while now,i heard a noise on right side (front wheel) , a metallic bang when crossing over speed bumps and having a quite agressive shivering when am decreasing the speed from 70mph to 55mph…
I changed the track rod ends, inner toe rods also, but that didn’t sort the problem.
Been to a local garage in Glasgow and the guys there found out that my problem is from my steering rack, the noise is coming from there and obviously has to be repaired or changed.
Instead changing it with an aftermarket replacement part,am thinking to buy a used one from breakings thinking that am gonna have the Mercedes-Benz steering elegance…

The question that i need to found the answer is:

My car is Mercedes-Benz Cls350 W219 v6 petrol from 2005 and i found a steering rack from a diesel one, a W219 cls320 diesel v6.

The steering rack is the same?
My mechanic said the steering rack should be the same, but i want to be sure.

Can you please help me???

Is it worth getting a second opinion from an MB specialist garage just in case the first garage is wrong .

Worth a try, you never know

Spoked to another 3 mechanics and all 3 of them told me the same thing, the steering rack will fit from a diesel model to a petrol one,but i keep digging…
Found a low mileage donor car,but is a 320cdi and want to be 110% sure about the fitting before buying it,next week will make a trip to Romania and i need my beauty in best shape :D

Go to Autodoc.co.uk.
I wouldn't.

Get the correct part numbers from MB not from aftermarket parts suppliers. Their catalogues are not 100% reliable.

By all means get parts from AutoDoc, as I do. But get the aftermarket part number from the correct MB part number.

Hi. The best way to find out is to check the part number if is mach from diesel to petrol and versa. Hope that help

My local MB dealer is very cagey about giving out part numbers. It seems to be a trend in the industry. I get Autdoc OEM numbers and put them in Google. You can tell by results if they are correct.

Even so, I would urge using an EPC to identify parts for your specific vehicle. You don't need the dealer as you can use this:

And enter your VIN.

What year is the 320 cdi? You need that information at least.

If you can get the VIN from the 320 CDI, you can get the part numbers for both from an online parts catalogue. If you find using them difficult (I often do...), there are some very helpful and expert members on here, and if you post both VINs I'm sure somebody on here will be willing and able to answer your question.
