Just finished reading about the new Alpina D3, 3.0 Diesel Bi Turbo

Approx 350 BHP, 560Ft Torque, Akrapovič Exhaust, 0-62 4.6 Sec, Limited 174Mph, optional LSD, 50 MPG! RWD Only But did notice the new BMW 3 series is being offered with x drive = 4 wheel drive, with triple turbos on the 550 Engine, anyone on here buying or is currently driving any of the above?

On a serious note - it really is an awesome piece of kit. I dont know anyone who has one but I do know someone who had the D5 which was simply fantastic - from memory it had something like 700nm torque which, for everyday driving, takes some beating.

I had a 330d remapped to 300BHP and 497ftlb of torque....It was awesome for in gear acceleration and still managed to get about 30mpg round the town.

So this thing must be rapid and could embarrass quite a few people that don't know better

Yes mate that's what I was thinking, I had the 335d sport mapped, and me and Simon had a poodle into town, behind his E55, think we both where surprised, that D3 with a map is going to be worrying for most.

I had one as well Lee, good car but chopped it for my first M3, the mpg was great!!

Great cars but not great at holding value as only sold by Sytners Nottingham so thay have control of the market. Usually not very popular with other BMW dealers.

Yes completely agree, have owned a few alpinas over the years, when they sell them its all singing and come to buy back its just a badged up 330d etc , M sports always seem to dominate over the alpinas when it comes to residuals, and reselling.

What Car has these:

Specification
Engine size 3.0-litre turbo petrol
Price from £46,950
Power 345bhp
Torque 516lb ft
0-62mph 4.6 seconds
Top speed 173mph
Fuel economy 53.5mpg
CO2 139g/km

...but even so, that's not far off standard E55K performance up to 60mph but with twice the MPG.

Amazing.

Sound is not in the same league though...

You also used to be able to order them through Birds in Bucks and you can always deal with Alpina and buy direct but would have to pay in Euro but with the current exchange rate that may not be a bad thing :thumb:

Still a diesel though so sounds crap :D

Its not a Merc diesel!

I've driven the old Alpina D10 and it was pretty quick back then, along with the old BM V8 diesel they sound very smooth but when tuned etc have a fruity bark and plenty of turbo whistle, shame we never got them in the UK.

My old 335d featured in a few mags and vids, I even raced Chris Harris with him in a Lamborghini Murcielago......

Mine was 360-370bhp and 570lb/ft via Evolve.
It ran the 1/4 mile at Santa Pod in 13.1 secs and did 167mph at VMax.

Very quick on the move, rock solid but boring to look at and bland inside. I did 40k miles a year in it back in 2007/8 and it had a final average of 46mpg.....

Hi Jules

I went for a spin in Billy's mapped 335d and have to say couldn't fail to be impressed. OK it isn't really my thing but it was bloody quick. There was me thinking its just a diesel but I was pretty shocked and it seemed to put the power down really well, much better than my car. I reckon up to about 40 it could probably be ahead of my E55, but then I reckon I would just start pulling away (albeit relatively slowly!). Mind you that was before I had the Quaife:D

Most BMWs are lovely to drive. Had the new 4 series to play around with recently, must say it was really nice drive, the 8 speed auto is amazing. image-1098061220.jpg image-3657132406.jpg

Yup, certainly are (apart from mind 80's 525es which are shyte.

There are always a few who slag them off but that says more about that person than the product itself.

Just make sure you dont get one with run flats. Totally spoil the ride.
